Greetings, travelers!

This thread aims to help new creators to know when to use certain keywords. In order to do this, we will classify all existing keywords in different classes, according to the sets where they can be used. So far, Blizzard has only broken these rules twice, so if you want to make a believable card, following them is surely a good place to start.

Basic keywords

Extensive list: Battlecry, Charge, Divine Shield, Freeze, Spell Damage, Taunt.

These keywords can appear in any set, including the Basic set.

• Poisonous is not included here, because it was introduced in Journey to Un'goro, so it's classified as Evergreen.
• Divine Shield only appears in Neutral and Paladin cards, with the only exceptions being Al'Akir the Windlord and Elixir of Purity.
• Freeze only appears in Neutral, Mage and Shaman cards.

Classic keywords

Extensive list: Choose One, Combo, Counter, Deathrattle, Immune, Overload, Secret, Silence, Stealth, Windfury.

These keywords can appear in every set, except Basic. They expand the Basic ruleset to make Hearthstone more rich and complex.

• Choose One, Combo and Overload are exclusive to Druid, Rogue and Shaman, respectively.
• Windfury is exclusive to Neutral and Shaman.

Evergreen keywords

Extensive list: Discover, Poisonous, Lifesteal, Rush.

These keywords were introduced in a particular expansion, but have also appeared in later sets. If previous cards had that effect, they are modified to include the keyword (see Emperor Cobra or Queen of Pain)

• Poisonous is included in the Basic set in the HoF replacement Plaguebringer. This sets a precedent for using Evergreen keywords in that set, although I don't think Discover would fit the Basic set.

Expansion-exclusive keywords

Extensive list: Spare Part, Inspire, Jade Golem, Adapt, Death Knight, Recruit, Echo, Magnetic, Overkill, Twinspell, Reborn.

These keywords only exist in the expansion they are introduced. If previous of later sets include cards with similar effects, they are worded explicitly (see how Meat Wagon and Captain Hooktusk don't use Recruit, even if their effect is just that).

• Before the introduction of SN1P-SN4P, Echo used to belong to this category.

Year-exclusive keywords

Extensive list: Echo, Lackey.

These keywords can appear in all cards of a certain Year. While Lackey was a year-exclusive keyword by design, the inclusion of Echo in this category is more or less accidental, since the only card that doesn't belong to The Witchwood with this keyword is SN1P-SN4P.

Recurring keywords

Extensive list: Mega-Windfury, Quest, Choose a Deathrattle, Casts When Drawn, Choose Twice, Start of Game.

These keywords appear in expansions from time to time. All of them are very different in nature, however:

• Mega-Windfury has only appeared in two cards in total and has always been a very marginal part of the expansion.
• Quest, on the other hand, has always been one of the core aspects of the expansions they appear in.
• Casts When Drawn is a token-exclusive keyword.
• Choose a Deathrattle and Choose Twice are variations of the Druid-exclusive keyword Choose One. For synergy purposes (like Ossirian Tear), Choose a Deathrattle is considered a Choose One card, while Choose Twice isn't.
• Start of Game was a core aspect in The Witchwood. The appearance of this keyword modified the text of a previously existing card, Prince Malchezaar.

It was a seriously bad choice before Anka was a thing and it hasn't changed since then. Played against another rogue player who used it and all you accomplish is performing a double-edged hack slash to your own win condition as well. Unless you, by some miracle, draw only cheap spells (That aren't cycle spells) then you conceded the game by making it so that you have to spend all of those other cards while taking fatigue before you can win.

Started off at rank 20 and my first 10 opponents were: 7 quest druids, 1 quest warlock, 1 highlander hunter, 1 highlander mage

I'm only playing Whizbang until I get the opportunity to sit down and do some home brew deck building. How does it look for everyone else??

Does anyone know how to get multiple card packs from the shop screen using in-game gold?  I've seen Kripp do it where he types in the amount he wants instead of having to go back and forth between the shop screen and pack opening screen one pack at a time. Thanks in advance.

With nine new Quests, it seems that we now have a conundrum- which classes (in Wild) have the best results by combining their quests into a single deck?

Here are my thoughts, ranked from worst to best!  Please note that a 5/5 is just okay (maybe Tier 4/3) because these are definitely memes.

Warrior- The only pair of quests with a distinct anti-synergy!  Boo, hiss, 1/5

Warlock- While not anti-synergetic by effect, the Warlock quests have exactly opposite goals.  I doubt there’s enough shuffle in the game to salvage a rapid-draw discardlock.  Maybe I’m wrong, but a better endgame HP change would be Jaraxxus or Bloodreaver. 2/5

Rogue- Somewhat anti-synergetic by effect- you’ll end up with 4/4 legendaries with unchanged costs. Wise deck building could probably offset that, but either way the quests are cannibalizing each other.  2/5

Druid- There aren’t enough big minions with Choose One to make the intersection of these quests’ target cards very big.  3/5 (unless Blizzard changes the rules and lets us have 2 quests, in which case 5/5 because they profit off each other’s weaknesses well if they’re together)

Paladin- These quests don’t NOT work together, and since we’re in wild anyway, there are some decent non-stat buffs that you can apply and copy with the hero power.  That said, both quests are a little bit “meh” on their own, and I don’t see that changing when combined.  4/5

Shaman- Not bad, but not great- a lot of murlocs have battlecry, and doubling their effects can do a lot- Corrupted Seer becomes Flamestrike, Coldligjt Oracle becomes Sprint, and in general murlocs turn into 7-cost basic spells on a stick ;^) But having to ration murlocs is never a good strategy.  4/5

Priest- This one is on the edge, but I think it’s doable.  Play an aggro deathrattle deck, stabilize, and drop your second quest with hopes to finish it by offsetting late-game damage.  It’s a control deck that’s really just three aggro decks in a trenchcoat, but it can still get into an R-rated movie.  5/5

Hunter- The first one that really excites me- I have had some success with Quest Hunter in the past and getting an endgame power by just chaining Raptors (and with Augmented Elekk/Feral Rage shenanigans, that can be 60+ raptors) is exciting.  5/5

Mage- The only one I expect to actually see.  These quests were MADE to be chained together, both will see play (mark my words), and they WILL see play together.  The new Hero Power feeds perfectly into warping time.  5/5

After playing a few matches with Highlander Hunter I can definitely say I can see myself playing this deck for a long time in ranked this expansion, it feels great to get out King Krush with Brann and Zephrys adds extra value with the 'perfect card'.

If you opened the pre-order packs at a fireside gathering? Sure felt this way. 

Then it would be pretty bad, to open the packs previously. 

Here’s a place to pray to Lord of RNG Yogg-Saron for not getting the warrior quest as your free legendary. (Or any other quest really)

Ask him nicely and he might just listen to you.

I just realized that she was just a Succubus with special emote from the boss so I went back to Blackrock to find out how did they kept their constistences there.

You know what I found?

He just plays a Felstalkerinstead.I have to say that this 'consistency update' of theirs is not that lore consistent.

I found it rather sad, because she was part of the tavern even back in Classic WoW

- Still it is not a big gameplay deal.

I thought that they would keep the original card there, no one buys these expansions now so it would not hurt.

I don't know why he has a Felstalker in his deck. It does not even make his deck philosophy sense now.

At least they remowed his emote and they are not trying to tell us that this Felhound is a Nagmara.

On the right Shadybunny (arena streamer) playing Warlock with the Mecha Jaraxxus hero on May 17 2019. Is this a bullshit jaina nerf for china again? I mean, what is that? A circle gear turns into mecha jaraxxus? Why did they change the animation that people paid real money for? When did they even nerf it, i didn't see anyone telling this. Fuck this. I'm never buying a 80 pack bundle again.

So tomorrow is the release day and I'm super excited, probably as much as most of you, my dear Hearthstoners. :) :) :) This expansion looks very good in general, but there is something I wanna talk related to the trailer Blizzard made for it...

It's about the Flexplosions' scene (starring Reno Jackson mounted on two camels). The first time I watched it, I thought the explosions were caused by... ehem... Reno's farts... I mean, just take a look at his pose, his movements and the camels' reaction, it looks like he is f...king farting!!! I didn't relate the explosions just to the movements he makes with his biceps, I really thought he was just making more and more force with his arms and opening his legs just to fart stronger and stronger!!! :( :( :( Please, seriously, look at the scene again and tell me it doesn't look like that... And the camels, yeah, the camels just look like they are not able to stand the f...king noxious smell!!! :( :( :(

I'm not gonna lie, I love the trailer (and the 10 hours version even more :P), it is great, but I can't stop thinking about this...

Am I the only one who was a bit confused after watching this scene for the first time, or not? :P :P :P

As the title says.

I think I'll keep two quests as usual, but I wanted to hear the opinion of some other wise player.

I know it's missing the new expansion (which will drop tomorrow) but I just played Stonehill Defender (on a new draft done today) and discovered Zilliax.  (A boomsday card which by all accounts SHOULDN'T be in the arena rotation at all.)
