Competition Theme: The Price Is Right
The market is fluctuating - these Costs are all over the place!
- You must create a card which changes the Cost of a card
- Whether it changes its own Cost or that of another card is up to you
- Your card cannot change the card, only its Cost
- What this means is that Evolve effects or things like Deck of Lunacy do not count for the prompt - keep the card the same, just change the price tag!
DavnanKillder wants us to manipulate the market this week and send some card Costs into a frenzy!
As always, I can be reached through Discord or here on the site via PM if you have any issues to report.

Welcome to the site!
And now here we are at the Showcase Showdown!
I did not post any feedback last week: I've been feeling pretty miserable lately, and just didn't have the motivation to do it. I'm sorry about that; I'll try to do better this week.
Anyway, I have two ideas:
A card meant to give a final Midrange push for Zoo decks.
Edit: Just remembered Embiggen exists. I'll try to come up with something more original tomorrow.
Very early feedback
It's always really nice to see new people in this side of the community. Welcome aboard.
As for the card, comparing it to Kabal Crystal Runner makes it seem a little bit on weak side, although it does have the advantage of being able to be played in other Secret classes that can reduce its Cost quicker with cheaper Secrets, although I feel like it doesn't do it at a speed to make it comparable in power level to Kabal Crystal Runner. It's a nice concept though, so I would give it a pretty good score if it was tweaked a little bit.
There is one tiny detail about the card though. This isn't a huge deal, and most people here don't care about these. But something that does bother me (and a few other people) is unfitting watermarks, which is something your card has. Rush does not exist in the Classic set, and was only added to the game in The Witchwood, meaning that in my mind, all cards that use Rush should come from The Witchwood or later. A custom watermark is a pretty good way to side-step issues regarding context of existing sets.
Hope you have fun, and I'm excited to see what other cards you make in the future.
@linkblade91
[Hearthstone Card (Giant prize) Not Found] is properly balanced, though on the weaker side. Essentially, putting stuff into your deck and then hope to draw it to play this card is a bit too far in my books. I think its better if the cost is reduced according to the number of cards shuffled into your deck that didn't start there. There's not really a lot of cards that can do that and its likely to cost 2 only as early as turn 5.
[Hearthstone Card (Scarlet vanguard) Not Found] though will be auto include into every paladin deck. Essentially the card punishes your opponent for flooding his board, and the card is too menacing to risk attacking face in the early game. So paladin more or less gets a free pass versus aggro and virtually ensure that its face won't be attacked until at least turn 4. Its not even punishing you for including this even if it never gets cheaper. 7 mana 6/6 taunt is not entirely bad. Maybe change the cost to 9 or 10 will do?
Some initial ideas.
Trustworth Pact-Seeler is a high-risk aggro tool for zoolock. Maybe need some balances to give more appeal, maybe changing the cost reduction to (2) or reducing the damage to 2.
Tax Collector Hans is a Tech Card against multiple cards being played in a single turn. Since the idea is affect both players, I made his stats a little pushed, since he can hurt you to.
Edit:
Made some changes in the text (Thanks linkblade91 for the idea) of Hans and a second version with another imagem. The first seems more goofy and funny to me, but I don't know if is Hearthstonish.
Thank you for the words: I have made the appropriate changes. Scarlet now costs 9, and the Giant only needs to shuffle the cards in :)
And thank you to Demon as well.
Here's some early feedback of my own:
DavnanKillder - I don't care much for Hans' art, but I do like the effect. Text could use some cleaning up: "Whenever a player plays a card, increase the Cost of all cards in their hand by (1) until end of turn." Won't be as wordy, as well. The Pact-Seller is fine, I suppose, although it might be too cheap, even with the intended drawback. And you insist on capitalizing the word "hero" when you don't need to lol :P
doingtheobvious - Welcome to the group :) We're always looking for new people. Demonxz95 already hit on the Classic watermark issue that will bother some people (myself included). Beyond that, the text looks good, and it's fairly interesting given that non-Mages will have access to such a conditional card. You've side-stepped a lot of mistakes new people sometimes make. Situation sucks for the Warrior, though, who would be able to generate the Trapper via things like Athletic Studies without a way to play Secrets.
Wailor - Neat idea, but…yeah. Too similar to Embiggen, too soon after it came into being.
Demonxz95 - I like your card a lot. The Cost condition is self-regulating, allowing you to continue using the spell but you'll have to pay more to create a bigger impact (up to a point). It's like a Forbidden card in that way.
Thanks Man, made the changes in the text. It was very wordy before.
Some feedback later.
Card looks great, and it's a creative use of the pairing.
Unfortunately, by making it a Hunter/Rogue card, you run into the watermark situation yet again since Hunter/Rogue cards do not exist in Scholomance Academy.
This card came when I had thought of Lunar Visions, and the niche design of Druids taking a Gamble with things like Guess the Weight. Thoughts?
Ever wonder what the rumble Run cards would be like in the HS world, well wonder no more and look at the custom collection created to solve that question in Rumble Run Returns! http://www.hearthcards.net/setsandclasses/#5363
Two starting ideas this time:
Feedback:
Demonxz95
CC — 5/5. Creative effect and flavor and balanced pretty well, just an all around good entry
linkblade91
SV — 5/5. Solid card, creative effect, pretty neat
GP — 5/5. Flavor is on point with the rest of Rogue in DMF, I would personally change the name to something even more flavorful like “XXXL Plushie” or something (lul) but that’s about it
DavnanKillder
TPS — -1 star for balance (3 damage per card is a lot, I’d make it 2 damage and maybe up the cost to 3 if that’s too good), -1 star for aesthetics (cost, not costs), so 3/5
TCH — -1 star for aesthetics (art isn’t really hearthstoney, also I think a better wording would be replacing the “until end of turn” with “this turn”), so 4/5
doingtheobvious
welcome to the card-creating clown fiesta!
ST — -1 star for idea (just a slightly modified Kabal Crystal Runner, which isn’t too bad I guess but not really comp-winning), -1 star for aesthetics (pretty sure it’s supposed so be “each” instead of “every”), so 3/5.
Also, a few tips:
1) you can avoid the whole watermark thing by just putting a custom watermark, works wonders
2) cards normally look better when they don’t have “orphan” words (words that are alone in their line of text, like the “game” in your card). Generally speaking, the more uniform in size the lines are the better they look, so I’d do “Rush[enter]Costs (1) less for[enter]each Secret you've[enter]played this game.”
Pokeniner
LS — -1 star for balance (a card with only one of those effects could be reasonably balanced, so both is a little overkill), so 4/
Make The Cow King an alternate Warrior skin plz
Wow, I've seen some really creative ideas already. My favorites are linkblade's Giant Prize and DestroyerR's Elegant Spellmaster so far. Will give proper feedback later today.
I'm afraid inspiration hasn't struck me yet, so my first idea was to give Studies spells to the two classes that didn't receive them in Scholomance. I'm not happy with the art yet, it's hard to find books with a background.

Given you've fixed the watermark thingy, I'd say you're good to go.
DavnanKillder
However, if you decide to go with Trustworthy Pact-Seller, her text should read "Your cards cost (1) less…". Verbs only have a final s when they're third person singular ("Your card costs", but "Your cards cost").
Pokeniner
My main issue is that she seems very strong right now. Maybe a 3/3 statline would be more balanced. Also, her name could be a bit better, but that's not too bad of an issue.
DestroyerR
I don't know if you could get away with making Elegant Spellmaster a 1/1/3 or something similar, but that might be too easy to use in return.
anchorm4n
That said, if you decide to go with either of them, I can photoshop a background for you :) Seeing the images, it doesn't seem too difficult.
@DestroyerR
Winslow is basically broken. In control, druid, or any combo deck, you can just get a free win out of nowhere simply by getting lucky, or setup in such a way that its virtually guaranteed to get, say a 0 mana Malygos. Makes it too advantageous playing second by having the coin in hand. There's no way of balancing this I'm afraid. The effect is simply game breaking.
@Pokeniner
Lotus Seeker is really good design for druid. Maybe a little too good. Druid plays few if any minions, so its virtually ensuring that its effect will almost always be beneficial to itself. The secondary choice will almost never be chosen, unfortunately.
It also has a strange problem of essentially nullifying itself when both choice are taken, like under osiris tear or fandral.
Thanks for the feedback guys. Made some changes:
- Altered Hans text ang give him a new art. Since this art seems more like a "pay or I will break your leg" guy, moved it to Gadgetzan and give him a nickname;
- Altered the Cost, Health and the self-damage of Trustworthy.
Some feedback:
anchorm4n
Like Wailor said, the idea is good, but seems to simple.
DestroyerR
Winslow is pure RNG-fiesta to me. Seems a good Hearthstone card, but I really don't like this level of RNG. Elegant Spellmaster in other hand is a very unique way of decreasing the cost of spells. I don't know how much is worth change the damage output for cost decrease, but to me is a 5 star and a winner competidor card easy.
Pokeniner
I'm a fan of a good Choose One card, that said, I really liked the card, since his options can be used from combo to disrupt. Very good job.
doingtheobvious
First things first, welcome aboard mate!
Pretty solid card. Simple and good. Very god job, to me, 5 stars.
Wailor
Very good card to me, ready to go, but, but I'm afraid of how powerful this can be in a zoo deck on curve, like Prince Keleseth.
linkblade91
Giant Prize is a easy winner. Scarlet Vanguard remembers me Rabble Bouncer, but in the powerful side. A good card, but Giant Prize is the one.
Demonxz95
Loved the idea. Amazing job, 5 star easy to me.
New idea + repost of the old one.
EDIT: Moonclaw Panthara is now an 11/5/5, so that it's not playable the same turn as Survival of the Fittest.
(It used to be a 10/4/4)
Alright, I'll use the day off tomorrow to think of something less bland. Thanks for your feedback!

Harry James Potter-Evans-Verres, hpmor.com
The problem with that phrasing is that the number of cards in your deck that didn't start there can and will fluctuate depending on if you draw them. Then the Giant Prize would be more swingy with its Cost like Mountain Giant, versus guaranteed-but-gradual Cost reduction like Mana Giant. I guess it could go either way.
Here's my idea, I'll try and give some feedback soon
Edit: new and improved version:
Even newer and (hopefully) more improved:
Disclaimer: if the above is factually incorrect or complete rubbish it is definitely both intentional and comedy genius.
Decided to go with a good old-fashioned Giant, this one to support Y'Shaarj, the Defiler decks.
Feedback time:
NerdyMcNerd: This is a really interesting mechanic, but I'd recommend (a) switching it to Rogue or Hunter since I don't think the effect fits Mage as well, (b) drop the cost to 7 and make it a Battlecry, this thing is way too good if you can get 6 cards out of it, and © make sure to to fix the text to "by (3)" since costs are always in parentheses.
Wailor: I prefer Grand Corruptor Faux. Moonclaw Panthara is way too good while Survival of the Fittest is in standard since you could potentially get 2 free 8/8s with Rush.
DavnanKillder: I prefer Trustworthy Pact-Seller out of the two due to the flavor of it, but Hans is still an interesting card and a good tech against combo decks. If you do go with Hans though, it should either be called "Tax Collector Hans" or "Hans, the Bat": the name is too wordy with both.
anchorm4n. Skipping you because you said you'll post something new later.
DestroyerR: I feel like both of these cards are way too good, Winslow could easily break if you have the coin and can get a huge card for free, and Elegant could lead to really easy Exodia setups with Antonidas.
Pokeniner: That's a fun card, but I think the flavor would work better if it was in Darkmoon Faire instead of Gadgetzan.
doingtheobvious: I like it, the dual-class fits the mechanic and it seems pretty good without being overpowered. And welcome!
linkblade91: I prefer Giant Prize out of the two, and I hope you feel better soon.
Demonxz95: I like this design, it's just scary enough without being overpowered.

Feedback round 2.
Winslow Tobtock is a card design I've made a few times (although never for a competition, just in my own personal time), and while I appreciate the weird, wacky combo potential of the card, feedback of the design in the past has never been too great.
Elegant Spellmaster I think is really nice, and I like the way you've used Spell Damage here. That said, I don't think it would necessarily be too OP if the spells kept the bonus damage in addition to the Cost reduction effect considering Sorcerer's Apprentice is a thing.. Spell Damage minions usually don't stick around very long
The artwork problem you've already pointed out, so I won't mention it. The Studies themselves are flavorful and on-point. I like them, but they might be too simple for some voters.
Moira Thaurissan is… VERY dangerous to say the least, and I agree with your assessment that it will probably be very hated and not do too well.
Another idea that came to me:
@Hordaki Elegant Spellmaster can indeed set up exodus combos... if you somehow play it, Antonidas and Malygos on the same turn. I don’t think it’s too OP lol
@Demonxz95’s that’s true, I could consider it if the text looks better
Make The Cow King an alternate Warrior skin plz
I've made up my mind and will go with cost reduction for Elementals this week. They are one of only two tribes that haven't received such a card yet and since Darkmoon Faire has quite some Elemental synergy, I thought it would be fitting.
I'd appreciate some help with balancing the card. For starters I went with a discount of (2) since your average Elemental is more expensive than a Mech or a Murloc. The problem with that is that you could chain two copies of this to get a huge discount. That got me to the second iteration of the card which goes along with Scargil. Elementals are way stronger than Murlocs of course, so this might be OP. Thoughts?
I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?
Harry James Potter-Evans-Verres, hpmor.com
@anchorm4n
Sadly both are on the low power level side. Reminds me a lot of Frizz Kindleroost, which ultimately saw very little play. If you want to boost its power level then the card should present an effect that will persist regardless whether the minion lives or die.
Thanks dapperdog! It's very nice of you to provide us with feedback. Are you going to participate in the competition as well?
I've tried to improve Blazewing based on your feedback. It costs 7 to avoid curving out Blazewing on 6, double Mana Giant and Animated Avalanche on 7 and Grand Finale on 8. Might still be too strong, but then it's a 7 Mana do nothing card. Hm.
(Sidenote, just for the record: I forgot about Fire Plume Harbinger, so there is an Elemental cost reduction card already in the game. Doesn't matter, I like the Phoenix and will stick with it.)
I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?
Harry James Potter-Evans-Verres, hpmor.com
Been thinking about entering some creation for a while, long time since I even tried to do one.
I thought about giving it higher mana cost, or less spell damage/stats.
In the end, you'll need a full hand to make it 1 mana and also a lot of damaging spells, I feel it a little broken in certain circumstances, but given the state of the game, doesn't feel that OP to me.
Papa Nurgle wants to share his gifts.
More feedback.
Fedrion: It's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure if it is balanced. Maybe someone else can give you better feedback about this. If I had to decide right now I'd say it's alright. I'd probably rate it 4 stars.
DestroyerR: Ancient of Mana is decent, but I prefer Elegant Spellmaster.
Hordaki: Really nice and flavorful, I like it!
NerdyCNerd: Looks cool balance-wise, but I don't really get the connection between Tess and increasing the Cost of your opponent's cards. But then I only know her burgle style Hearthstone card, maybe there's some WoW stuff going on I don't know about.
I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?
Harry James Potter-Evans-Verres, hpmor.com
Here's some more feedback :)
Fedrion - Welcome to the group :) Despite it being a while since you've made a custom card, your first entry looks pretty solid to me. Not as powerful as Malygos in its sheer Spell Damage, but in turn you get to reduce its Cost. Art is pretty cool, too, and the set placement seems alright. Balance-wise, maybe it should cost a bit more because Potion of Illusion makes it easy to create cheap copies.
anchorm4n - I like the updated Blazewing. I think it's fine at 7; kind of like Dragonqueen Alexstrasza on turn 10+, you usually would want to play it later to allow yourself to drop some other Elementals. My only (minor) niggle is that you should move the word "hand" to the next line: right now the text doesn't look aesthetically-pleasing.
DestroyerR - I like Elegant Spellmaster the most: it does something interesting with Spell Damage and makes you build your deck differently. I would go with that one.
Wailor - I think the 11-mana version of Moonclaw is fine. People see "free" and freak out, so at least it costs something to play. Seems good to go.
Hordaki - Your Horrific Giant is using C'Thun art, and it's fairly noticeable. Beyond that, I think the card is alright. Maybe it'll get people to play Horrendous Growth? lol
NerdyMcNerd - The newest version of Tess is the best iteration of this ability. Depending on what you hit, you could really disrupt your opponent's game-plan…and yet, it's also quite slow for the effects to be felt, so the card is balanced in that way. I might argue it's a Legendary class "tech" card against Combo decks, and that's not good, but it's universal enough that you can get away with it. All-in-all, seems fine. "Increase" should be capitalized, though :P
DavnanKillder - "Tax Collector Hans the Bat" is way too long of a name lol. Name it "Tax Collector Hans", or "Hans the Bat", but not both. Beyond that, though, I think it's good to go.
Pokeniner - I think the card is competently made, but I wonder if anyone would use it. It's a big risk to let your opponent have a cheaper minion; conversely, the increased-Cost option is a gimmie if your deck has so little minions (because your opponent will hit one before you do).
doingtheobvious - Not everyone cares for when you make up a new dual-class combination, but all-in-all the card looks good to go. You're using a different watermark, so it's not like the card exists in Scholomance, but still something to consider.
Thought about the Potion of Illusion shenanigans, and yeah, would be broken at that point, I implemented a solution other than cost increase because it's a little more on the path I originally thought the card should be played , but really maybe it would be better to just outright increase the cost.
Papa Nurgle wants to share his gifts.
What do you think about this? I will try to make choice cards, maybe something like 'lure/attract' and 'repel', or 'bring balance/power/life' and 'repel force/power/chaos/death'
Here, I will offer some of my feedback:
@Fedrion
@anchorm4n
@DestroyerR
@Hordaki
@NerdyMcNerd
@linkblade91
@doingtheobvious
@Pokeniner
Pls remember that these are only my opinions, and they may be not more important than others opinions, including your own.
Ok
While certainly an option, the different phrasing makes a difference: namely, you can shuffle cards back into your deck that were already there, mostly with Secret Passage. Just one or two of those is enough to reach 0 on Giant Prize; unfortunately, that one card kind of ruins the whole shuffle simplicity :/
As for your card, it should be fine as-is; maybe even on the weak side: you've paid 2-mana to gain a 3/2 body and a 1-mana discount on a future card (probably next turn), but you also gave your opponent the discount first if you save yours for later. Cards that benefit your opponent have not done well in the past in Hearthstone. Although, combined with the Druid's various sources of ramp, you can better reach the expensive stuff earlier. The "(1) more" can be used to stall for time, as well.
Sorry I'm coming in late, its been a hectic week x_x
Rusted is a bit of a call back to my entry from the 10-mana spell contest with a slight adjustment. I'll remember to make it a Mech if I end up submitting it.
Grave Giant is a tad spooky, but damn I want Zoo Priest to be a thing.
Of the two, I like Rusted Fel Reaver more because it's more interesting to me. Grave Giant is fine; it's just...not as interesting lol. Also all Giants are Epics. Grave Horror is a Rare, but any 8/8 minion that says "(X) Giant" is an Epic.
Not sure where the Taunt comes from, though, if you consider the card related in a flavor capacity to the regular Fel Reaver. Game-play wise it might be needed because the card is slow and needs to affect the board somehow, but the keyword still seems tacked on a bit.
Yeah, that should about put it to at least playable levels.
I have a few ideas, but no time to make it look professional so kinda have to pass. But still, I like looking at new cards. Sometimes it makes me wonder why team5 dont just steal a few ideas here
While I do like Rusted Fel Reaver very much, there is one major problem with the card. Discard Warlock really needs draw and being able to target Hand of Gul'dan with Expired Merchant and Nightshade Matron is very important. Your 'Discard Giant' would prevent that and I don't think it would see much play because of this.
I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?
Harry James Potter-Evans-Verres, hpmor.com
Thanks all for the feedback, the final version is already in the contest, it prevents Potion of Illusion, but it's still a 3 mana Spell damage +3, which it's quite powerful.
Papa Nurgle wants to share his gifts.
I changed Balance Keeper, as well as thought that you may like a card I made for previous comp, but wasn't sure if it doesn't break the rules. The last one is card I found in my Imgur album, I think it may be not bad to reuse some of my older ideas.
Here is previous version of Balance Keeper, as well as the choice cards:
@BloodMefist
I'm worried that the fact that are already giants in this comp makes them less likely to get good scores (what reminds me about All the Rage competition, where there were a bunch of cards with just keywords, and despite they were fitting the competition, they ultimately ended with rather low scores) so I would go with Rusted Fel Reaver, however I'm not sure it will be realy liked either, beause it may not look realy interesting. However, unlike linkblade91, I think it is better with Taunt than without it. But, I guess many would choose to trust linkblade over me.
Ok
Don't knock yourself too much: your opinion is just as valuable as mine :(
Of the three presented, I actually like Gorgannon the most. A Battlecry with an effect that's not immediate is different, and I can see myself using Gorgannon in, say, a Plot Twist and/or Supreme Archaeology deck that needs additional juice after burning through a lot of its cards. It also leads to some interesting decision-making, because both players will know when the effect occurs that you ran out of minions.
About a day to go before the submissions close! If you want to participate, now's the opportunity.
Thanks for your feedback linkblade.
I think I will post as soon as I'll get to home, but I have one question for anybody who would have time to answer: If I would choose to submit Balance Keeper, do you think it would be good to change its text to Choose One: Your next card costs (1) less; or your opponent's one costs (1) more, of course with some stats tweaking, as well as long as the longer text doesn't make the card inelegant, though I will be able to judge myself.
Ok
I say it's probably fine as is. Your call though
All hail to our new overlord, the Dragon-Goat! Hands down 5 stars from me.
