What triggers for you the decision to buy an expansion?

Submitted 5 years, 4 months ago by

I am not talking about the hardcore HS fanboys...these ones probably buy the 2 bundles for every expansion.

I am talking about those who taking into account certains elements. So what is it?:

- The theme and mechanics of the expansion?

- New cards of your favourite class?

- The archetypes that could be Tier 1?

- The legendaries?

I base my decision to buy on the cards of my favourite classes (Mage, Hunter, Druid) compared to the cards the others classes are getting.

In the new expansion, apart from the relatively bad legendary, Mage is getting good cards that will hopefully bring Secret Mage back. Hunter and Druid

are, so far, getting some love too. That's good enough for me but, just to be on the safe side, I will purchase once I see all the cards.

Whether or not I have the money is the biggest factor lol. I like to buy the expansions, but lately I've been really broke. The decision has been made for me.

Beyond that, the expansion has to sell me as a whole in regards to flavor and mechanics. I love Mechs, and Magnetic seemed really cool, so Boomsday was an obvious grab. A Dragon expansion would be another one. I don't care about the meta, so it's a simpler question of whether or not an expansion tickles my fancy.

On the one hand, I think I've bought at least one of the pre-orders for every expansion, so I think I would end up doing it no matter what.

On the other hand, I don't generally pre-order until a few days before you can't anymore, so feasibly there must be something they could do that would make me not want to buy one.

The class skins really sucker me in, honestly. I have liked every one of them, and since the bundle is easily worth the price even without it I don't feel cheated or anything for buying the bundle to get the skin (though I could see how others would). I've never actually bought a skin on its own, only if it came with packs.

As it is, they've given me Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron and Tortollan Pilgrim, so I'm set.

    Welcome to the site!

    FOMO.

I played WoW for over 10 years and hated missing out of cool mounts, titles, gear, achs, etc if I didn't pump the content hard.

You never know which old heroes will or will not actually be brought back on the BMAH, er on the Blizzard store.

For me, it's the legendaries and the preorder skin. If they didn't put the skins behind a paywall I don't know if I'd bother.

The biggest factor for me is how much gold I've saved to buy packs - if I don't have at least 5K (50 packs) I'll just buy the smaller bundle. Otherwise you start so far behind you'll miss out on at least a few of the more fun decks that I don't have the dust to craft since I never just buy packs normally. Bought RoU since I spent so much gold on the Heist wings, so if what I saw about the PvE being the same way this time around I guess I'll be buying the next expansion as well.

I'm quite worried about skipping this expansion, I skipped the Lichking Expansion and found myself really wanting to try he different quest decks. I seem them as basically a legemdary card from each class worth having when in other expansions theres usually only 4 or 5 legemdaries i want to have.

This has got me thinking, should I pre order the cheaper bundle before I regret it?

I've been here a while; just hanging out in the background.

Lich King expansion was the single most powerful expansion in HS history.  There were tons of cards with absurd power level, lasting throughout their standard life cycle (and still defining the wild meta today).  Many top decks were unplayable without a large amount of cards from this expansion.  Frozen throne was so meta defining, that all the expansions during year of the raven were overshadowed by it and had their cards suppressed by the sheer power level

Of course skipping that specific expansion was a huge mistake.  Uldam on the other hand, looks pretty weak in both the quantity of irreplaceable effects and power level

I usually buy myself one pre order, if not both, but this time I'm on the fence thinking if I want to order at all.  None of the cards look particularly exciting nor vital for the meta

For me, one of the major drives is how long the cards will be in standard. I feel like I'm getting more value if i open more packs of the first 2 expansions in a cycle (therefore more cards)

For the final expac i usually just hoard gold and craft any meta-defining cards.

It might sound strange since I mostly play wild, however most new cards have minimal effect on the wild metagame. For wild it seems better to craft what's good/what you want to play with.

Firstly, I'd say only consider preordering if you can afford it.

As to whether you do preorder or not... it's a judgement call, based on what cards you like. If you're mostly bothered with having powerful cards, then I'd recommend you spend some time checking out reviews of the set from pro players. That should give you a better feel for if the expansion is likely to be powerful and worth your money.

I don't play many games because I'm more of an addicted multiplayer game person, so I rarely bought the games (and more into cosmetics, but I'm not into that anymore). The reason I would buy the expansion is that the cards look great. (Just the same way in every expansion)

There are still some epic neutral cards left I'm waiting for, so I really don't care if they gonna suck or not, but I'm hoping they would bring a new way to play like Whirlwind Tempest. Even it's terrible, I had at least fun experimenting with it. But let's not talk about Desert Obelisk... as it looks really tough to build around it that it limits your playstyle.

Also, I don't like cosmetic anymore, I bought someone like Sir annoy-o-tron, which I actually liked him a lot as he has such a cool avatar. But I hope I won't buy another similar one to it.

What you get from the preorder. If it is totally worth it im buying it. If not I always have enough gold to buy enough packs.

I don't care for money, but I don't waste my money, that's why I am able to not care about money. They have to deliver something good that they get my money.

I gonna play the game anyway, cards, classes or anything else is unimportant to me.

EDIT: Cardbacks don't count for that. I could care less for those. Extremely cool heroes maybe. Elise is not.

If It's the first expansion of the standart cycle.

+ I'll probably buy pre-order with some good hero skin.

It is same with going for a concert.

If I think that I will enjoy I am going that concert; If I think that I will enjoy this expansion, I am buying it.

It is the service that we are buying, not the cards or hero skins. It's also highlighted terms of use by blizzard. They have all the rights.

So if I am enjoying after i bought, it is worth. Don't care meta, archetypes or anything so much. I only care for my joy about hearthstone.

Only the final reveal stream is left of the unknown cards.  I'm getting kind of worried because the only ones that seem exciting are a few druid cards and the mage 8 drop

I was entering in the HP bundle giveaway the other day where you're supposed to post what new legendary you hope to get.  I had to look up what the legendary cards were and after long contemplation ended up settling on something "meh"

At this rate, I can just craft my BEES! and arcane tyrant reprints with the dust I've already got

How much do I have "extra" money and have I bought other games lately. Went 3 years f2p but recent years I have bought the cheaper pre-order like once a year, or the single player content. Now I am not buying, have 7500G & 4k dust with a lot of possible disenchants.

Well, the hype got me. I really like the new cards and unfortunately, a lot of the legendaries look appealing to me. I have will only have around 5k dust when the expansion hits and no dust left, so I guess I'll get myself a preorder. What also got me thinking were many people here stating the opinion that Uldum has the highest power level since K&C, so having most of the cards seems important to keep up with the meta.

I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?

Last night I got drunk and pre-ordered the smaller bundle!

I'm going to be "that boring guy" - my decision on the pre-order for an expansion tends to rely almost always on whether I can find the funds in the monthly budget or not, rather than anything about the expansion itself.

Since I know I am going to want to continue to play Hearthstone and try and keep up with the meta, I will usually end up buying the pre-order (if I can afford it) just so I don't have to worry about losing ground on the collection.

I'm still debating 50 or 80. I had very good luck with a 50-pack buy last time, and I was not happy with how Rise of Shadows was looking. If it wasn't for Bomb Warrior or Control Shaman looking viable (and they were), I would've passed buying RoS and quit Hearthstone.

But at the last minute, I did buy the RoS package, got a lot of legendaries, and most important of all, most of the projected RoS decks I despised failed (all murlocs should be brutally murdered and dusted, though).

The last few days finally brought the cards I like (I'm a player who likes going to the last card in a deck, I like WTF meme decks like Treachery and old Togwaggle too), but I'm still bitter about seeing more murlocs, more sticky garbage, more aggro paladin direction and an unclear view of what priest or control warlock decks could do (probably not much in the meta).

/Longshot bet on Big decks being the off-the-meta choice (shaman, warrior, paladin decks that cheat out the big minions) with Colossus of the Moon rising them

Since my favourite deck is my wild super greedy Reno quest Benedictus deck, the new 2 mana highlander legendary was my trigger^
