  • First Day Of School - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

Demonxz95 - Very very cool design, but I think that it should cost at least 2 mana.

BloodMefist - She can most likely return herself to her hand with her death throat. Interesting.

KANSAS - Good card, pretty strong at the beginning of the game.

linkblade91 - Maybe if the hand druid was viable.

grumpymonk - Good "board clear" for DH with weapons.

Cg8889 - I do not know. 1 mana card that takes a "specific" card.

frosthearth - Maybe too strong for 1 mana because it gives not a random card, but the last card

  • Hyped's Taric + Lee Sin Combo

The concept is really nice but testing it I had a lot of struggle against most Targon decks because other than Lee Sin the deck doesn't have a reliable hard removal.

I took out Sketcher, Deep Meditation and even the Arbiters and placed one more Deny, I can't help but strongly suggest on adding Whimsy which helps a lot endgame.

Also once you are around 5 Mana, leave always 4 free to trigger Deny. Having card draw would be awesome but I guess it's the trade-off for Taric's awesomeness.

    Good luck.

Thought I might give one of these a go. The idea behind the flavor is that you as a mage teach a spell to a class of young apprentices and the ace apprentice is the first one to learn it, showing you her exam results by adding the spell to your hand. Since this cannot generate you a spell if played on its own but the spell is targeted rather than random, the card's stats are no better than Babbling Book. Compared to Diligent Notetaker, I don't think the effect should be too strong for 1 less mana.

Obvious synergy with Flesh Giant but can also work in Quest Warlock to fetch the Malygos  or other top end of your deck.

  • The Future of the Runeterra Meta - Clues From Friday's Reckoning Tournament

I really waited to see some Vi decks in torunements but iirc none brought one.

I personally thought that Vi/Diana and/or Vi/Taric is better than Lee Sin/Taric deck.

and I saw that noone tries to make Apprehend work except me. It is so good in a Taric/Darius and a Thresh/Darius with The Undyings deck. I have been disappointed to not see some in tournements.

Same thing over and over again, all of them brought same decks etc.

Noone is brave enough to make some difference.

Also, fuck Aurelion Sol and its random shitfest.

So excited for a new season!

Demon hunters have a lot of energy, but they could use some improvements in technique.

    Demonxz95

I like it.  It's possible to make it 2 health, since it only works with a specific subset of cards and you can't take advantage of the effect on turn 1.  It reminds me of Blackjack Stunner in a weird way.

    BloodMefist

It feels weird that it can keep giving copies of itself if it's the only minion that died.  I also think it makes it harder to build-around since it can get your opponent's stuff, making more a value card like Disciple of Galakrond rather than Raise Dead.

    KANSAS

Card and design are solid.  Admittedly, the art feels more Uldum than Un'goro to me. Also, there's a comma is missing between 'dies' and 'gain'.

    linkblade91

Love the flavor!  Would probably struggle to find a home in standard but it could work in wild.

    R

I think it would be more exciting if the card discovered any Warlock spell, not just basic and classic. The pool is small and it feels bad to be offered Sacrificial Pact and Sense Demons all the time.

The NA finals match 3 was brutal.

Lulu to join the Ionia champion roster in Legends of Runeterra: Call of the Mountain | Dot Esports

So the first champion I grabbed as a 3 of out of the new set is Lu Lu, and I instantly set out to put her in a strong list.

She's pretty good as long as you run her balls to the wall aggro, along with cheap challengers, lots of barriers and buffs.

  • Mistwraith Allegiance

Seems like you probably need Doombeasts to have any real chance of leveling Nocturne. Right now, you have 3x Onlookers and Nocturne, which means he will never level up. So, he basically becomes a fancy Frenzied Skitterer without his level up, meaning you should probably just have the Skitterer instead since it's cheaper.

  • Fan Community Spotlight - Neoguli's Core Set Reworks - Part 3 (Rogue and Mage)

"Edwin VanCleef is the biggest victim of this design limiting constraint, as you can't ever print too many cheap cards to not make him an oppressive minion in the early game."

I am going to assume that "cheap cards" refers to 0-cost cards since there are enough 1-cost cards for you to build a whole deck of them in every rotation. Edwin is not the sole card limiting this design space, you NEVER want to print too many 0-cost cards in any card game, since they are always broken in one way or another. If you remove Edwin, you would be killing the strongest card from a classic rogue archetype which plays another similar card, Questing Explorer. By doing so, you wouldn't open up any design space for rogue, you would just make a void. An early Edwin usually requires you to sacrifice your entire hand of otherwise useless cards and rely on that one big minion to stay in the game or finish it. Your replacement in the form of Ruthless Tracker doesn't provide enough of a payoff for running many cheap cards and dumping your whole hand in one turn for it to be as worthwhile.

There are some interesting and well balanced designs here, but the above remark struck me so much I had to comment on it.

Yay for a new season :)

Witchwood Apple. I tried to capture two different things here: she's a horticulture teacher so there's bound to be some food involved, and there's the whole "give an apple to your teacher" vibe. Maybe we can reinvigorate the Hand Druid.

    That's a word I've never heard before.

I will say it may be slightly weird for a card to generate something at a time when the generated card in question would be Wild only since examples don't really exist. Ball of Spiders was able to generate Webspinners after Naxxramas rotated out, although the card was made before yearly rotations existed.

Otherwise though, it looks good and you've got the flavor nailed.

    Hooray! New season!

Do you think the ability is too much? Is the flavor good enough?

@Demonxz95, I really like it. Usually that ability is only on Legendaries, so it feels a bit weird. But Murmuring Elemental exists, so that argument isn't really valid.

Hey, thanks. I'm already super excited for the season.

If I understand the flavor right, you hit something and if it kills it, you feast on it? Specifically "it" being the fish? A 1 mana 1/3 that deals 1 damage is particularly strong, although it's not outrageous compared to other 1 mana 1/3s that exist and the 2 extra Health is conditional, so I'm willing to say that it's balanced.

Hell yeah! Hyped for the new season!  Taking some advice from KANSAS' suggestion thread, I'll try only showing one card at a time.

I wanted to further push Zoo/Tempo Deathrattle Priest since I was dissapointed that neither took off despite all the support they got.  I enjoy the flavor of a student coming across the real deal with Scholomance and will likely try to continue iterating on the theme if the current effect isn't to people's liking.  The flavor of the effect is a bit off, but the idea is that the student found out the secrets of Raise Dead that the school was hiding.  I was also somewhat dissapointed with how boring Frazzled Freshman was and wanted to make something more interesting.

I'm looking forward to how everyone else takes this weeks contest theme!

  • The Pepper Thread - Share Some Good Vibes!

First time I actually tried to go Legend and did it with 20 minutes left in the season. Sure, I had to swallow my pride and do the final push with Face Hunter instead of the budget Big Warrior deck I had but it still felt really good.

PUT YOUR CARD IN THE DISCUSSION THREAD BEFORE SUBMITTING! This is the most important thing you could do. Other people are smarter than you and might catch mistakes in your card that you didn't notice. I don't think a card submitted within the first 24 hours has ever made it to the finalists, let alone won. You have roughly 4 days to get feedback and make adjustments, use that time well. You don't get anything for being the first person to submit your card.

Everything is correct, but I believe that the last point should be divided into two components. Sometimes someone puts in a card that does not comply the requirements of the current competition. Your card cannot be changed after you have placed it in the submission topic. So, double check the rules.

Competition Theme: First Day Of School

It's the first day of school! You're going to need to get to grips with the absolute basics of your class, so let's start with a simple assignment.

    • You must create a 1-Cost Common Class minion
      • To be clear: You must create a minion that costs (1), is Common, and is a Class card (not Neutral)
    • Your card cannot be a Dual Class card
      • It's the first day of school, that's way too advanced! Maybe wait a week.

Welcome back everyone! We're easing in slowly with a nice simple competition this time - but even the simplest prompts can be tricky to master.

As always, I can be reached through Discord or here on the site via PM if you have any issues to report.

  • The quite shocking "new player experience"

A little update about my unranked to master project:

I made it to bronce 2 so far (i know thats very impressive you can congratualte me later ;) )

I see first issues running my semi optimal lists since the netdeck rate is now a stable 90% and i dont expect that to change until diamond. Also players slowly learn the game and i can't go for obvious plays anymore :(

for the assembling of resources i currently run expeditions.

My first run was a solid double 7 win run (for the exp ofc)

    the second was meh

the third looks like it will go well

gotta see how much resources ill get from max level vault i hope ill cash in a Katarina soon to build my main deck from rising tides (no its not a yasuo list)

Whoever spend the time to read that semi boring report: have a nice day:)

  • Fixing Darrowing - New Set

Nah I'm fine with it as a two of.

We can tutor out Darius, we can harrowing out Darius, we can play Darius, and all it needs is 2 mana bank.

This is totally fine with me, I play test my lists.

If you want 3 harrowing 1 apprehend go for it, but then you hit allegiance less often so this is fine.
