  • Oh my. Well, that's a gaffe!

Made a correction in the article >.> thank you!

  • Happy New Year friends!

43 minutes to go here, looking forward to 2020!

  • Yeah, this year was insane for Hearthstone *stuff*. This took more hours than I'd like to admit to make happen thanks to how busy the year was :D

Word on the block is next year is going to be even more action-packed!

  • Check your spam folder! I had one show up there once, other than that, I've gotten them monthly.

6 out of 10 articles are NOT HS atm. Please move a filter up in your priority list. It shouldn't be that difficult

    Bookmark this instead for now.

Also, I really hope you're not including a Site News update for the holidays in that number.

  • A deploy is going out now that will enable ads on the site again.

These are all manually placed ads, nothing will be inside of comments. If you see ads, you'll see a unit in the header, the footer, and some sidebars. There will also be an ad above comment sections.

I'll continue to evaluate placement and such. No more should we have stuff showing up in bad places though, so that's great!

  • Sorry for the delay in responding here, the Christmas season has kept myself and others away for the most part.

I've gone ahead and disabled ads for now. We were using tech from Google called "auto ads" and we've reached the limit of how many areas of the site I'm able to blacklist and that didn't help ads not display in comments or inside of some posts. The way forward will be to manually add the ad units exactly where we do want them. It was an experiment and an easy way to get ads on the site which didn't really work out in the end.

I'm making it my target to get ads back on the site within 24 hours so we don't lose too much revenue. December is one of the best times of the year for ads since you can pretty easily earn double the income from them (yay higher advertiser budgets) so it would be a shame to miss out on it for too long.

  • This is very close to my favourite Priest deck I've been playing so I can't wait to take it a spin. GG Kibler!

  • Sludge Slurper is having its attack decreased to 1, from 2, in the December 19 Patch.

How do you feel about this change?

Once these changes are live, players will be able to disenchant the adjusted cards for their full Arcane Dust value for two weeks.

  • Faceless Corruptor is having its attack decreased to 4, from 5, in the December 19 Patch.

  • Scroogelock

  • You say that like we've never done that before which isn't accurate :P

  • Maybe. Maybe not. It definitely depends on the point of view.

People don't comment too much on decks right now, leading to the primary issue, so it would appear that showcasing the latest comments rather than the latest decks commented on, is a wasted opportunity to display more decks. Consider though, if one sees a lot of active discussion on the same deck, it can give you an idea that a hot, recent discussion is taking place on the deck and maybe you should check it out. This could, of course, be sort of solved if we displayed the deck's comment count on the discussion row.

I think there are better things we could do to help deck discoverability on the site and to encourage more people to comment on decks, providing greater turnover.

  • Thanks guys! This is exactly what we have the feedback forum available for, I want to make sure we're giving everyone as good an experience as possible. I've got ahead and banned the domain from advertising on the site anymore, it may take some time to go through.

Thonson: We are actually trying to serve less intrusive ads than most sites which is why a lot of them end up being text-based. You're right, we could definitely be making more money if we opted for more flashy stuff. There's a lot of stuff that needs to get fixed up with ads though before we  make an attempt at that route.

Personally, I've been getting a LOT of magic ads. I think Wizards is trying to tell me something.

  • Sorry, we don't support any versions of Internet Explorer since the browser is no longer supported by Microsoft.

    Example

Ironically here is an example where there is an ad in your post. Having the same issues I guess.

This was the only ad that loaded too, none on top or bottom.

    Thanks!

I've made some changes, it may take up to an hour to take effect, but I'm hopeful this will prevent any ads from showing up in comments.

  • This is super cool. Everyone, even non-Magic players, have heard of Black Lotus. Looking forward to checking out the event and earning some sweet packs.

  • You shouldn't be seeing them inside of comments and replies. I'll take a look to confirm those areas are blacklisted. That's a shit experience and I'm sorry about that.
