Where is Bellringer Sentry when you need him?
So powerful. The fact they come back into secret after dying make it really good. It's petting zoo in better since there is a 4/4 body and paladin secret are easier to play

Secret Paladin Comeback in Standard?
I think this could be very strong depending on how much secret interactions or even new Secrets we get. The Secrest paladin has now are pretty decent so it could work.
Challenge me ... when you're ready to duel a god!
Well some form of Secret Paladin should be back on the menu with this one.
The soldiers look rad. Kind of a weird card, I'm not sure what this battlecry represents.
Petting Zoo on a stick. But i'm not sure if worse. Petting Zoo comes earlier and the fact that you keep your secrets seems stronger to me, because they protect your board.
This looks very cool. I look forward to seeing what Pally secrets they reveal.
Disclaimer: if the above is factually incorrect or complete rubbish it is definitely both intentional and comedy genius.
Effect too good and cool to ignore! Hope it sees play
Lemushki - The one and only since the 2006 rebranding.
It's a very different strange secret synergy with token support, let's how it develop on the expansion
I love this. Could we finally see the return of secret pally?!!!
I hope so. I really like the secret focused decks as they are often fun to play and interesting. I will DEFINITELY be trying this one out.
With the return of one of the best Paladin secrets - Avenge, Secret Paladin might actually become a thing. This card increases the potential by a lot.
OBLIVION!
If secret paladin will get back, this one will carry it. Nice mechanic.
Now this is a card that i will love to play a lot even if its not that good .Love the effect love the art .
So secret pally is a thing?
Wow what a unexpected effect. Turning secrets into minions that turn back. Not sure how good it will be but I love the effect.
Casual Dragon Cardgame enthusiast.
will the secret disclosed or they remain "secret" ?
I am 69 years old and still reach Legend
The effect is innovative but I'm struggling to understand how and when you'd play it, although I chalk this up to the fact that it presents such a novel way to play Secret/Token Pally. I can already feel the mind-melt of remembering which Soldier was which secret and what the optimal removal order should be.
Started playing HS in May, 2015. The bad news: I missed the excitement of 'Naxx out?' and GvG. The good news: I never met an Undertaker.
Its a very powerful effect. If secrets are worth playing then this guy will easily empower them. Its just a matter of how easy it is to get this down alongside several secrets. Even 1 isn't the worst though, and if you get 2 or 3 then you've made an insane play. Not sure if this is good enough to be played as a turn 8 move alongside a bunch of secrets though. I think it needs to be more natural than that.
So secrets that don't proc then a board... Nah. I'll pass.
Chumbawumba is the worst band name.
I will be optimistic. Probably is ok, but likely not a top meta deck...

I'm hoping they release some synergy for this, Mysterious Challenger would be best friends with Smythe. Without some synergy or efficient secret tutors though I don't see this guy working out
Secrets we know will be there from last year and Core set:
Avenge - Great card even not in a Secret Paladin build
Noble Sacrifice - Always felt it was a decent stall, especially against big decks that have only one or two minions on board at a time.
Oh My Yogg! - Can easily see this card see more play if Secrets get more support.
Reckoning - Seems like one of the best new cards being added to Core set.
Feel like with one, maybe two more Secrets, we can finally see a Secret Paladin existed in some capacity.
This is such a cool card but it needs more support. Something that either draws or generates a bunch of secrets, like Mysterious Challenger, Hydrologist or Bellringer Sentry.
I'm gonna be honest, this doesn't look that promising.
It's a legendary, so single use only.
It's a 5-mana 4/4 so it needs to get a big payoff to justify its inclusion in the first place
The core set is reduced to 3 secrets, one of which (Noble Sac) is basically guaranteed to trigger quickly, meaning it's unsuitable as a set up. The other two are a bit more controllable, but require you to play passively for the payoff.
We're getting at most two more secrets (if even) in this expansion.
The soldiers are just tokens. They don't have rush or taunt. It's basically a worse version of Soulciologist Malicia.
Overall, I don't think this is gonna be good enough. OUt of all the secret buildarounds, this might just be one of the absolute weakest. On a good day you get to drop this on 5 with like 2 secrets up, meaning it's only slightly better than Jandice Barov who needs no set up and can highroll.
Perhaps there will be some secret related draw engine or other strong cards that just enable secret Pally by themselves, then this will just fit in by default. If not, then this is dead in the water.
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
The secrets we know about are already good enough. All the bad ones are going to Wild and Classic.
That said, all this guy does is create stats on board. In fact, timing this can be fairly awkward if you care at all about keeping any of your secrets in play for your opponent's next turn.
So my feeling is not that we need to know about other secrets coming out, but that we need to see further secret support before we call this good.
could be nice, if any of the secrets stick for a turn or two before playing this, but I have my doubts... 5 mana 7/7 isn't good enough, so it would need to be 5 mana 10/10 or 13/13 to be good. A similar slot to jandice in rogue/mage, so would need to be two secrets up going into 5 to be good enough i think.
might be good enouhg.
Looks good to me
aside from your minions getting silenced.
Banned for spamming.
Another failed attempt of Blizzard trying to make secret paladin a thing.
Wellp.
Hmm, potentially worse Petting Zoo, and paladin secrets often are REALLY bad. But with the return of Avenge and the fact that there probably printing some new paladin secrets, it might become really good. Wait the "They transform back when they die" part makes it a LOT harder to deal with it actually. Kill one, it transforms back and now you have to be scared that the one you killed turned into Avenge or Oh My Yogg!. That's scary. IF Secret Paladin gets REALLY pushed, then i'm probably happy Mysterious Challenger isn't in standard. But on the other side, Secret Palladin might become a real thing again in Wild..
I'm kinda excited for Secret paladin, not gonna lie. BUT i certainly do hope that were gonna see a Eater of Secrets reprint. :)
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.
I don't care if Cannonmaster Smythe is good - he is freakin' awesome. With Broom you can turn your cheap secrets into a board clear, and the complexity around your opponent trying to clear these 3/3 units in combat is going to be wild as your 3/3s turn back into disruptive secrets.
This card has bonkers potential, but its going to depend HARD on what kind of Secret support Paladin gets. Rise of Shadows had strong Paladin Secret support, but got abandoned for the two years it was around.
Turn six, this and broom. You own the board and regained a few secrets. If there is one more paladin secret coming, which given this there should be, secret pally is going to be a thing again
I really like the idea of doing something proactive with Secrets, but I hope Paladin can consistently play enough of them to create threatening boards with Cannonmaster. Definitely seems like you'll need to play the Secrets and Cannonmaster on the same turn, unless your opponent somehow doesn't trigger any on their turn.
Good in a vacuum but no way near a secret deck enabler.
This surely slides into secret Pallys when they exist for other reasons but this card alone is not good enough to justify any build in that direction.
Best comparision: Soulciologist Malicia. She is better in every aspect.
Winner winner chicken dinner
This seems pretty powerful. Getting just 2 minions off of this already gives you a very threatening board. I imagine this will be a staple in just about every secret paladin moving forward.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
Really cool, I like the gimmick a lot and I don't even play Aggro/Secret Paladin.
Even when dropping just 2 3/3s it is a powerfull board.
Avenge + Cannonmaster Smythe = I predict tempo/secret paladin will be at least tier 2.
Inlove this effect!
-=alfi=-
not even this card can make me play paladin secrets
Such a fun design. I won't want to play agains this card.
Solid
I love the flavor of the card definitely a must add in secret paladin
Oh I LIKE this. A brand new type of Secret synergy. If the Soldiers have a Deathrattle of turning back into Secrets, then this is weak to silence, but otherwise it looks like something you could get solid value from.
"Be excellent to each other." -Bill and Ted
The effect is really awesome. 5 mana for a 4/4 body that could fill your board with 3/3s that even if your opponent does something like Flamestrike, now they have secrets to deal with again. I see this being fun, and a good addition to paladin, but not necessary better than Dude Paladin builds.
I'm not too sure...
It's a nice swing, but doesn't this have anti-synergy with Oh My Yogg!? Like, one of its main uses is protect your board from AoE, but that's not possible if it got turned into a minion, leaving you open to big removal.
I guess it's could be good, if there's not much AoE this exp.
ArtStation | Twitter
My problem is that we don't know if there's going to be a Mysterious Challenger-type minion to just dump all the Secrets before you turn them into a critical mass of Soldiers. Turning the Secrets into Soldiers also ironically removes the board-centric protection that the secrets provide.
Hey, you heard about that Mario guy?
Wild secret pally gonna rock
True, that's a good consideration.
This is really going to make people think. Really great idea, even if it turns out it is not that powerful.
Most interesting legendary so far.
I dont know if this is good. But I like the design. One of the most bizzarre cards ever.
Good in theory, but likely impossible to play on curve, and you'll need to draw secrets.
With proper support this card can be good. But since paladin draws like shit, this card's thoroughly screwed.
Would team5 actually print another Subject 9? Only if they really really want this card to be good.
This is indeed very interesting, not sure if it will see any play, we need to wait for other cards.
♡ u 4ever 2008 - 2022
secret paly making a comeback
It is a really bold idea to delay secrets for a turn. Why? Why not trigger them directly on a deathrattle?
Also, why pal? Transforms are more like mage thing.
I may be missing something, but it looks unplayable.
So if your opponent steal one of the soldiers and it dies on the opponents turn, do they get the secret?
Right now i don't lile this card. In paladin the secret doesn't stay to long before they are activate, and u don't want to fill your deck with secret just for this leggendary. Even if you want that secret i doubt thate u will wait to play it for the chance to combo it with this card. So without other card i think it's terrible
If Secret Paladin is a good deck, this will be the best card in that deck
Sounds good but its dependant on your opponent triggering your secrets the next turn you play it. No secret? No 3/3 for you buddy.
A couple of problems and downsides with this card.
1. Paladin would have to get access to drawing secrets to pull them out of the deck otherwise this card will turn into Commander Rhyssa all over again. We all remember how that card was hyped up and the deck ran out of steam on day 1. At least for Smythe, you might have a board to fight with though.
2. How many secrets do you put in your deck ? After you play C. Smythe, the last thing you want to do is draw another secret. It is now even possible for you or your opponent to mill your own secrets in wild! You can only have 5 ornaments on that Christmas tree at a time.
Silence is also a problem but there are some upsides here as well including Baron Rivendare and maybe Educated Elekk. This card will definitely need some support similar to Masked Contender or a Professor Putricide effect. Right now though I am betting this deck will turn into a later game meme. I wouldn't put it past the design team to print a card that changes those paladin secrets into secrets from other classes will they are on board.
This + Mysterious Challenger could be very strong in wild and it helps that Mysterious Challenger is an epic. I wouldn't mind hearing "Who am I? None of your business." more often in wild!
Ribbit
This is a nice little card with an interesting effect. I haven't played secret pally in a long time and wonder if a new version might be viable.
This is certainly unique. You temporarily lose your secrets to get some 3/3 tokens, but when one dies you get a secret back. Probably only worth it if you have 3 or more secrets in play, so I don't think it will see much play unless secret decks are good.
This will need a lot more support to be viable. Paladin secrets trigger easily, so curving out will be an issue.
I like the idea here, but we will need some method of tutoring secrets to hand or in play for this to be very impactful. I really hope that surfaces because I am tired of the current paladin play style.
Unfortunately, common sense isn't as common as it should be.
On a vacuum, Cannonmaster Smythe is not that amazing, since secret Paladin only played Secrets when said Secrets were cheated out (real Mysterious Challenger and Bellringer Sentry). I guess the biggest proof is that Oh My Yogg!, a very cheap and powerful disruption tool, doesn't see play unless it was generated. And the reason why is that Paladin Secrets, by themselves, aren't impactful enough to warrant a place on decks.
So, I believe Cannonmaster Smythe will see more meaningful play when combined with Secret generators (like Hydrologist) or with cards that cycle through the Secrets in your deck (like a Gadgetzan Auctioneer for Secrets).
Don't get me wrong, the best case scenario for Cannonmaster Smythe is really powerful, but Cannonmaster Smythe is the payoff card, so it is entirely dependant on how well a Secret Paladin operates (and in the offchance there's a small Secret package added to Libram Paladin).
Rating cards on coolness factor rather than predicting power because I like screwing up rating averages (and because I suck at predicting real power levels, but we'll ignore that LUL)
Wins per class (2/6/22): DH-197; Druid-996; Hunter-91«60; Mage-1056; Paladin-1126; Priest-746; Rogue-961; Shaman-1095; Warlock-871; Warrior-906
That seems like a great way to promote secret paladin.
Pretty unique and valuable effect too ; I'm tempted to say OP
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
I'm glad they didn't bring back Mysterious Challenger for core set now.
4 Mana 7/7
Hmm secret paladin - not sure about the secret pool that will be available, though Avenge is solid. Again will rise and fall depending on support, but overall the concept is solid, and the fact that the secrets return when the soldiers die is quire powerful.
Wow. They finally freakin' printed Secret Paladin support that WORKS!
To those folks irked because your secrets won't proc - they will, unless all the 3-3s are killed at once! Once one is killed, say, an Avenge will pop out and the train will begin. Better yet, your opponent can't check all of your secrets with one attack, forcing them to hope, pray, and trade. This doesn't circumvent your secrets, it makes them even harder to deal with!
Better call Thrall!
Don't know what to think about this card right now, probably a meme card but need to wait to see the rest of pally cards
Will try this in my secrets deck
Rogue DH
Worth of trying in Wild)
Couple more secret synergy cards and it gonna be crazy
Secret Paladin was the deck that propelled me from rank 15 to rank 5 for the first time back before the ranked revamp. I'm glad to see it get some potentially powerful support. I think I'll be trying this card out in Wild.
Very cool mechanic and the new secret introduced in the core set Reckoning makes this quite viable. You can silence the soldiers to remove some of the secrets, but not every class has access to silence these days. Also what Kripp said in his video, if your opponent wants to clear, they have to be very careful about it, coz now the secrets are extra secret :P
TREMBLE before.... the most legendary dragon that ever existed!
Meh, looks too good to be true so it's probably gonna underperform most of the time
Looks great,, don't know how this will work. Sometimes you need a specific secret to save your minion or yourself. But ooops it still is a 3/3.
I'm not online it's just your imagination
mighty be good, might be bad pretty hard to say
builds a good board but no rush, taunt or smth so seems a bit small, this is similar to living mana but worse?
Coolt effect but there are a lot of reasons this won't see play. Paladins don't want to fill their decks with secrets (because they suck) and the tokens don't have rush so it's just a board fill (at best) that could be ignored or cleared. Compare with Soulciologist Malicia who have easier generation and summons them with rush. Two more mana, yes, but the difference of power level is huge. Unless there are some new secret generator, remember that Desperate Measures rotates, this will be forgotten already at April 1.
Could be really strong with Desperate Measures, but in wild, secret paladin is a no for me.
Nice effect/desing at least.
Papa Nurgle wants to share his gifts.
The flavor is terrible on this one, but the card seems playable. Expecting some good support this expansion for it to work though.
Let's see if Paladin Christmas Tree will be back.
This is really really strong and I am excited to play it, but not to play against it
Interesting card
Seems good on paper but paladin secrets can be triggered quiet easily so you can't really play it on turn 5 or 6. Also you have to run those secrets and draw them idk.
VALUE!
Wow, just wow.
Less than 24 hours after showing that they are going to give support to Paladin secrets they pull off one of the best tech cards against secrets (Horde Operative). At this point the best thing would be for this to be the only secrets support for Paladin in this expansion so that there is a chance that the others are useful cards.
paladin has good secrets in the core set. if there are enough secret cards and synergies, this would be a 5 star card.
also I really wish that Desperate Measures wouldnt leave standard right now T_T
Secret paladin support, but not very useful in my opinion. If the soldiers had rush then it would make this card a must have in any deck.
Seems fun. I like secret decks, so bring on secret paladin!
I love Secret Paladin so much, but this card alone won’t make it viable. SPs play lots of cards that are good for 1 mana, but “good for 1 mana” won’t win you the game.
What the archetype needs most is good card draw or generation so that you can keep pumping out those 1-mana spells. (That’s why Shadowjeweler Hanar gets more value out of Paladin Secrets than Paladins do.) I’m still hoping to see this soon.
If Paladins do get the card draw they need, then Smythe will offer great support. As I mentioned about, part of the fun of Secret Paladin is getting lots of secrets on the board, so this will generate lots of tokens.
Secret Paladin will love this
English is not my native language, so please excuse occasional mistakes
So if your opponent steal one of the soldiers and it dies on the opponents turn, do they get the secret?
Transform your Secrets so they don't get copied with Horde Operative. *taps forehead*
For the card to be playable, we will probably need ways to make it easier to get multiple Secrets on the board because it doesn't seem that easy at the moment. Able to do that though, and I could see this being a powerhouse.
seems interesting to say the least.
Seems overhyped. When would you have 2+ Secrets active for this to be worth it? Not on turn 5/6. And I'm not sold on more "cast a bunch of Secrets from your deck" being printed, though I could easily be wrong. Don't get me wrong, if Secret Paladin works, this will be in it, but it's not like it will work BECAUSE this is in it.
This seemed very strong in the introduction video, but it's probably rather bad because you don't wanna be playing many Paladin secrets.
Great card. Mass dispel would cause ragequit
I reckon this could be beasty
I've been here a while; just hanging out in the background.
We need minions like Bellringer Sentry to take profit of this card, i'll wait for full reveal to judge it.
By The Holy Light!
This might revive Secret Paladin in Wild, cannot wait to test it out.
Paladin sectrets are pretty easy to prock. Only viable with 2 or more secrets. Will probably be too situational to include, unless they reprint the twinspell random secret card
i dont see pally secrets as all that strong, hmmm... not sure about this at all
Enter the Cannons! I love this card, and the secret synergy is just another bonus - as well as board presence. Just watch out for silence.
At this point I have spent too much money on these games to quit.
Now pass me another pack, and lets see what I pull.
Weirdest visualization in Hearthstone so far. Secrets turning into soldiers?
good card
Kenny's little poet. 😇
If only the slots for secrets were more than 5...
Oh okay i get it! It's a way to remove your own secrets you don't need anymore, they should have add to the effect "when they die turn back to a random Secret"
For The HORDE!
Really strange, but strong. There are enough good secrets to enable this one.
Secret paladin is gonna be op again?
This looks good. Not only do you get 3/3 but you also retain the value of your secrets.
Interesting but seems too slow to be useful.
Weird effect
No potential in standard without secret support but atleast it doesn't support libram paladin
Very good card but may be a little slow. Stuff like Desperate Measures is rotating out so that is too bad.
Very interesting effect. With how cheap Paladin spells are, it'll be pretty easy to generate those 3/3s. It'll also warrant some interesting and skillful gameplay as to when you want to play this, since it'll take your secrets off the board for a turn. Nice design for a card, though it's still dependent on the frequency of secrets being played. So far, the dominant Paladin archetypes don't include any secrets, which might render this card useless.
Maybe a fun fact: in WoW Smythe is bald. The proof that Hearthstone can cure baldness?
https://wow.gamepedia.com/Cannoneer_Smythe
No more secrets, mages traumatized me :[
I'm not writing this off immediately, but I expect something like this to be tier 3 at best.
Arena > Wild > Standard
good
Really like the effect. It's unlike anything we've ever seen before, so it's hard to judge, but I think that this is a very powerful payoff for Secret decks, turning untriggered or underwhelming Secrets into actual bodies that can contest the board. This will be one of the more powerful things in Secret decks for Paladin.
I don't want to cure cancer; I want to turn people into dinosaurs.
Nice one, powerfull. Secrets with 1 mana cost will be transform to 3/3 body and still will be secrets. IMHO must have in secret pala
This card looks crazy. Secret Paladin is making a comeback
This is a pretty threatening top end finisher for Secret Paladin decks. Even just two secrets makes this a scaled up version of Dire Wolf Alpha. There is a slight downside in that you won't initially have any secrets to defend your board with (Oh My Yogg! being a critical one to combat AoE), but you will get some potential to defend it if the 3/3s are removed one by one.
For glory, honor, and gold!
Reminds me of that druid card, living mana? which i had underestimated. looks like a powerful card. Even with 1 secret, that's s 4/4 and a 3/3 for 6 mana. Not super good, but at two secrets this becomes amazing. 7 mana for 10/10 stats worth of minions?
Meh
Super strong I believe.
interesting card. seems ok
Paladin secrets are quite annoying. This is a strong card for the return of an old archetype.
Seems very interesting. Difficult to evaluate a mechanic we've never seen before, but I don't think a board of 3/3s is ever that bad...
~ An expertly disguised dinosaur
Mysterious Challenger, is that you?
Joking aside, I definitely don't think this will be as strong as our mysterious friend, but it might be a fun to try out secret paladin for a bit again. I'm most curious to see what other potential interactions there will be, such as if you can silence the soldiers to prevent it from returning as a secret, or if you can play a secret while the same secret is currently a soldier (I would assume yes, but you know what they say about assuming).
I love the idea of this card, it's a great twist on Secret synergy - but I just don't know that I want to run a bunch of Secrets in Standard, even with this as a payoff.
Welcome to the site!
