  • Looking for SERIOUSLY cheap budget decks.

A good numer of decks need some epics but are otherwise cheap so rare and epic are often more important then legend. Many competative decks i made have only 1-2 legends but 4-8 epic. I made a paladin one with no legend that´s realy good using 4 epics and 10 rare. Both quests are a good starting points.

  • What is your favourite deck so far?

Quest Paladin! Always loved deathrattle-style decks that let you flood your opponent with an endless tide of sticky minions. It also runs a lot of Uldum cards so it actually feels fresh compared to many of the other decks on ladder. Surprisingly effective too; took me from rank 7 to rank 5 with an unbroken winstreak. Control warriors just don't know what to do with all the minions.

I'd really love to play highlander mage but the deck is way too expensive for now.

    Quote From Zelgadis

As far as I know you can complete daily quests vs the innkeeper, that might be a way to grow her collection without losing a ton of games.

The only quest which can be completed against the innkeeper is the win 7 games one.

I think you have to put in a [Hearthstone Card (Ziliax) Not Found], it's just too good not to include.

    Challenge #12 - A Questing Highlander Shaman (NFS) -

This week's NFS challenge is to build a Highlander Quest Shaman starting with MegaACE's submission

He describes the decks as, "Fun zephyrs shaman deck, you draw zephyrs with sandbinder, double its battlecry, bounce zephyrs back to your hand with barista lychen, bog slosher, shuffle more into your deck with banker, play infinte zephyrs with double battlecry!"

I picked this deck because it looked like a lot of fun, but there were a ton of submissions this week so we could easily do a few challenges if folks are NightCrawler's interested.

The obvious appeal is getting to play [Hearthstone Card (Zephyrs) Not Found] a bunch with Youthful Brewmaster, Bog Slosher, and Barista Lynchen (and then even more once you complete the quest or play Shudderwock).  There's also a lot of Elemental synergy and a couple ways to randomly get more Sandbinders if you go Zephyrs + Baleful Banker early.

A couple cards feel forced for the battlecry synergy (e.g. Earthen Ring Farseer instead of say Zilliax), but I'm looking forward to trying this greedy bastard out!  :D

Highlander mage is a lot of fun!

normally I can’t stand mage but the new Highlander mage is great as it has so many answers and swing turns but since they are one offs you can miss easily and misplay

  • Highlander Face Hunter

It's worth noting that, if you need to clear your opponent's board, Zephrys on turn 6 is a guaranteed board wipe spell (pretty much) - it will offer either Swipe or Consecration (or both).

We did a series for uldum essentials and have a decent list of starter decks that cost around 1600 dust. You can find it in the deck menu or use this link.

    Challenge #11 - Octosari Druid (FS) -

Firebat selected Felzak's Token Octosari Druid for this week and I think I finally have my reason to craft the "Octodad" :)  (I feel like Octosari should be the build around concept this week because Token Druid's been around awhile and there might be a fun Octo'thun deck or something like that out there too)

Felzak describes the deck as early token stuff to stay alive and then an Octosari into Wispering Woods + Soul of the Forest (into Savage Roar) lethal.

I'm not a Druid master by any means (didn't even know Beast Druid was the most popular non-Token build!), but Crystal Power seems weak and only having 4 spells costing 5+ with 2x Anubisath Defender & 2x Garden Gnome seems iffy too.  I also feel like I never see Force of Nature played.  However, I have no idea what I want to include...maybe some of the new cards like Serpent Egg and Infested Goblin?  We'll see!

Quest Paladin, one of underestimated quest pre-launch. Completing quest with sticky defensive minion, and later to swarm board with much stickier zilliax-magnetized Mechano-Egg? yes please.

    Wild

Cruel Dinomancer immortal combo deck. Its supposed to be meme-ish, but turned out to be quite oppressive and easy to pull off, and a lot of fun, reminding me the good old pre-nerf Dreadsteed.

Assuming you mean the Dr. Boom hero rather than the minion, you could probably make Control Warrior deck by just throwing all mechs and removal you have together. Use Plague of Wrath instead of Brawl, double Execute, double Omega Assembly etc. I don't know how exciting it would be to play though.

Token Druid is pretty cheap and has the potential to high-roll, so it will get some wins. For example this deck contains no epics and legendaries except SN1P-SN4P.

In any kind deck where you have cheap high-health minions like Upgradeable Framebot or Rabble Bouncer or (pseudo) eggs like Mechano-Egg or Mechanical Whelp, you can add Faceless Rager to get extra tempo. It is a situational card and therefore not very popular, but when you find yourself in the right situation it can really swing games.

  • Rock, Paper, Scissors - 3 Competitive Standard Decks

Oh I agree with pretty much everything here! I think Boom's biggest problem isn't so much his power but how he feels to play against, which is very much a matter of perception. If his mech pool were worse and not improved with the recent expansion, he wouldn't feel quite so awful to face. I think a lot of people think Boom needs a nerf because of specialist, but that was a bad format that rewarded playstyles a bit different from ranked play, so it's an unequal comparison when pros say "Boom is broken" and ranked players say "Yeah, see how it went in the tourney?" Boom needs a change, just not as urgently as other cards, so I don't see him as toxic, comparatively. The whole issue with mage is my precise sentiments, too. Those cards do not need to exist, and certainly need to cost more to mitigate their power.

  • [Game] Deck Doctor Challenge!

I liked your thoughts on the Dragon Hunter deck and had a similar impression about it looking strong.  It was pretty fun to play and Faerie Dragon (+ Twilight Drake) stood out as feeling better than I expected (though Wyrmguard felt as bad as I expected, haha).

Unfortunately, I ran into a lot of Bomb Warriors and found the combo to be harder to pull off than I'd thought.  There was only 1 Tracking, which made sense given that it could constrain your Zul'jin timing, and none of the combo pieces could be tutored otherwise (Emeriss, Leeroy, Faceless/Alex).

I ended up going down the Jepetto path, as is tradition, but wanted to try something other than an OP minion pool + spells + Zul'jin build.  I ended up going full battlecry package + Lynchen for the value game (and to have a chance at an extra silence against Mech Hunter/Pally).  The deck turned out to be pretty terrible against anything other than Warrior, and it wasn't even that good against Warrior, haha ;D

  • Starter Thief Rogue

  • Flame Ward

Nearly impossible to play around this and Vaporize at the same time, which makes Secret Mage an actual pain to play against at times.

  • What is your favourite deck so far?

After the expansion has been out a week and i've played a ton of games.

For meta/competitive decks:  Control warrior is my favorite and go to deck for legend and climbing the legend ladder.  Dr Boom is obviously strong and fun to play (not as fun to play against ofc).  I'm really impressed by how strong the taunt package is.  I kind of wrote it off when they were revealed thinking that mage + quests would make control warrior take the full backseat to bomb warrior but I was wrong.  The taunts are incredibly strong and you have one for each phase of the game.  You ever played two Armagedillo and 3 buffed Tomb Wardens? Even warriors bad matchups can struggle with that.  Warrior isn't even that bad against mage if Lunas isn't in the top third of their deck.  Lunas on 5 means you're ded but you can grind reno mages out if they don't draw it because they only run one conj and one giant in deck.

Bomb warrior used to be my go to deck, and I may eventually go back to it but control warrior might just be stronger, and since bomb warrior gained only the mummy, i won't be too interested in it for a while since I already climbed to legend every month of ROS with it.

For fun decks: I haven't played a lot of "fun decks" but honestly the two that stand out to me as being the most fun are zoolock and quest shaman.  The zoolock i play runs the full lackey package with the legendary and it's just nutty when you draw the right cards.  Quest shaman is fun because lackeys and shudderwock are fun.  and there are a lot of weird battlecry minions you can just slap in there and see what happens.

    Fair enough

  • Looking for SERIOUSLY cheap budget decks.

I have no list at hand, but I would suggest you to build cheap decks around the Quests you own, since they are good enough. Their requirement can generally be fulfilled with efficient commons and rares. And they are fun (completing a quest could be a decent trade-off for losing a game).

Alternatively, you could build cheap mech decks (eg Hunter, Paladin), Zoolock (with lackeys and the new self-damage cards), Token Druid. Murloc Shaman too, but only if you have both Murloc Warleaders.

All these decks can variably benefit from your SN1P-SN4P, and maybe Zilliax too.

If you do not have enough cards for any of the suggested archetypes, you can always build a partial deck with what you have, and then see what the auto-complete function does: sometimes it's good enough to play it.

  • The Greatest Dinomancers (aka. 5/5 Dreadsteed Warlock)

You can use Rivendare after you've played a Dinomancer and then trade the dino and Dark Pact one of the two that resurrects. That way you have four dinos to work with. I actually run both and use eggs as well so that they're not dead cards in the matchups where I don't draw into my combo right away.

  • Looking for SERIOUSLY cheap budget decks.

Quest shaman seems like a decent choice.  It runs no epics and is all commons and rares.  Other than shudderwock but you could always craft that if she really likes the deck.  Hagatha isn't even core.  Deck seems like it would be fun for a kid to play and you can put Brightwing in there for synergy and RNG fun and she can play some legendary she might otherwise not.  I'm not sure if playing with lackeys double battlecry stuff would be too hard or not.

Quest rogue is a decent option too.  Mostly commons and rares, no epics.  Legendaries are Leeroy, Edwin, and Zilliax but you can just replace Edwin and Leeroy.  You get to have RNG fun and it's pretty simple to play.

You should be able to just look at HSreplay and go by winrate and the ones at the top are fairly cheap and you can cut corners where you think its appropriate.

Boom, Velen, and Kalecgos all seem like they'd be in fairly expensive decks.

I hope hearthstone is still a thing when my kid's old enough to play, would be super cool to get him to play.  Good luck.

    Pro

    Hey friends,

I got my 9 year old daughter into Hearthstone, and she really enjoys it. She gets more out of opening packs and building decks than actually playing, but she has fun. She plays pretty rarely, so I don't want to put real money into her account. I build her decks with her and help her play, and we can barely win any games, even at Rank 21. I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a viable deck for someone with a very limited collection. We're not aiming for legend here, just to be able win enough games for quest completion and having some fun. She has SN1P-SN4P and Vargoth, obviously, plus Zilliax, Kalecgos, Dr. Boom, Velen, Brightwing, and the new Shaman and Rogue quests. Not too many quality epics, etc.

    Thanks!
