I actually had really good results on launch day with Big Demons, but of course that was before everything had been optimized. But down the road, perhaps by the time Outland has rotated to Wild and more class demons have been released it'll become a more viable archetype.
Other then that, surprised to see that balanced Voidcaller isn't OP... weird! :)
Actually I wouldn't be surprised if a few days after the Felfire Festival ends they'll have a video of someone cleaning up the festival grounds and finding something that gives a big clue to the expansion with the actual announcement coming the following week. At least that is what I would do if I were on their marketing team. :)
the devs themselves stated that Whizbang will stay as a Wild-only card.
And that is why I dusted him as soon as the rotation hit. When I play Wild I don’t want to be limited to random Standard lists. Just my personal preference though
Not sure what to tell you, I don’t work at Blizzard.
I do think it isn’t completely out if the question to maybe introduce a new pack type that only awards cards currently useable in the new format. But it probably wouldn’t be any cheaper.
If you think about it, the all rarity duplicate protection may very well have been introduced for this new mode, so that it’s easier for these people you describe to get more of their old cards back quicker.
If they did introduce a new pack type, maybe they’ll have deals for the first few rotations to make it easier to re-collect them too.
But that kind of thing is probably your best bet. As it mentions in this article, the new mode likely won’t be catered to everyone just like Wild and Arena aren’t.
I think the constructed but with limited rotating sets idea is probably on point. But I believe they said it would have rewards similar to Arena. Which if they did I’d think it’ll be like a permanent Brawlesium type of mode.
Banned cards each rotation would be likely as you can’t expect them to balance cards for any mode other than Standard (and sometimes Wild).
Just a note. In the past two or three months I have noticed a cycle (at least in wild): at the end and the beginning of each season/ month, players will choose more aggressive decks since they want to climb fast.
...
in the middle of the months, the meta is more combo oriented.
This is not a new trend. In the past it may not have been as noticeable in Wild though because most of Wild was just Big Priest and fast decks to counter Big Priest. But now you can face off against a wider variety in the format. For example, I just played three games against Warlocks in a row and none of them were the same deck. First it was a Cube Lock, then a Discard Lock, then I was surprised to meet a Reno Dragon Lock! If I had kept playing I probably would have been matched up with a Mechathun Lock next. :)
But yeah, the try-hards definitely come out in both formats at the beginning and end of each month looking for fast wins with aggro decks.
The trailer will probably be closer to mid July if it's releasing in August. I feel the single player adventure launched quite late? The virus could have a knock on effect *shrug*.
I was actually thinking about this the other day, and the expansion did seem a bit late, but I think they wanted to tie it in with the Felfire Festival. I would expect an announcement within a week of the Festival end.
Another thing I was thinking of earlier, I believe the new game mode should be released sometime during the next expansion cycle. And I personally felt like the solo content this time was a bit "meh!" Also, no arena rotation mid-expansion this time. So clearly they are putting more focus on the new game mode, which means they are likely waiting as long as possible to put their marketing messaging out there so they can give us an update on the status of the new mode.
Don’t have the list handy but I have been enjoying a type of Midrange Beast deck with the inclusion of Augmented Porcupine and the photo realistic Lion. Might not be the best, and it’s not exactly “Deathrattle Hunter”, but it’s decent. I’ll upload it later if I remember.
First two were a breeze with Dragon DH and Face Hunter respectively. Two tries using regular old Tempo DH on third boss, was 2 damage short of a win on one try. Enough to clear the quest, will try more later.
I think it is more like you can now replay the final mission of chapter 1 to trigger the reward now, or do nothing and wait on the second fix and get the rewards later.
"You may agree with the vocal majority that Blizzard screwed up with the class and should have known better,..."
I will restate something I said in another thread. Blizzard had I think a year to balance all the classes in beta? So I feel like if the first expansion, or two, or even the first year of Demon Hunter is filled with quick nerfs and/or buffs to cards to figure out what power level the class and it's cards need to be at it's not a failure, it's expected as everything right now is like the DH beta period. And ultimately, whether it's DH or some other class/deck, as long as they are proactive and making adjustments quickly instead of waiting 4+ months to change cards that may be oppressive, that's also a win!
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but it's my honest opinion.
It wasn't used very often, as opposed to Counter? (see Counterspell)
Counter might be needed just for the sake of not over crowding the text box. Without it the text would be
Secret: When your opponent casts a spell, prevent the spell's effect.
Okay so that's not too bad actually... However, it would be interesting to see them use Counter in a few cards moving forward. Maybe a Legendary Minion whose battlecry is to Counter your opponent's next spell. Or maybe "Counter all enemy spells next turn." This could have actually been Khadgar's effect and it would have made complete sense. If any future sets have another version of Khadgar it'd be a great opportunity to use something like that for him.
I know a lot of people have had comments about how the team failed in the Demon Hunter launch and all because of the number of nerfs to the class in the first two months, but think of it like this: Blizzard had months and months of closed and open beta to eventually balance and release the game with the original nine classes. So this first few months of DH in the game were just like the "beta" period for the class.
But personally, I feel like this change is almost a buff than an nerf. As many have stated, Odd DH in wild definitely appreciates this change and I ended up winning my first standard game after the change because it gives 2 attack instead of just 1. Small sample size, but still... I think I personally value the increased attack over the previous 0 mana cost. Sorry, Altruis, but it's true!
Overall underwhelming. I think this expansion the team was fully focused on trying to get out the Demon Hunter class and the solo content was an after thought. And I think the fact that it was free this time around shows they knew it.
If they do, it would likely still reward you as soon as you got the added quest because you will have already met the goal. I mean, that’s what’s going to happen to those who haven’t gotten the quest yet, or got it after finishing chapter 1.
However, in the past when giving out freebies to say sorry about something, they are usually just gifted packs with no requirement to complete.
Yeah, only a couple got frustrating and I started to hit Restart on those if my opening hand or the first three turns or so weren’t ideal. Also I made the mistake of trying to control the board on the final fight thinking it was going to be a long match. Started to think it was an un-winnable match.
Show Spoiler
Turns out it was un-winnable since you never actually defeat Illidan! But instead he shows he’s more open minded and able to learn/grow than most people in a Facebook comments section after taking 40+ damage. Had I known that I may have won several attempts sooner as I would have prioritized the face over board presence/spoiler]

Maybe back in it’s standard days, but it’s ridiculously easy now in Wild.
Has there been any word on second rotation yet? Feel like we're WAY past the mid point of the expansion now.
Which is weird since Trolden works for Blizzard so if he highlighted it they should know it's happening.

Overall, I was a bit underwhelmed with the adventure. But hey, it was free!
