As you can see, these tasks are quite the mixed bag: while some are fairly simple to complete, others require more than a bit of thinking (and luck: that one's always welcome) and planning ahead.

Moreover, certain tasks clearly state that you need Comps consisting of Mercenaries belonging to specific races in order for your progresses to count: while the Leeroy Jenkins event was about Orcs, Humans and Dragons, this time you'll need the help of Humans, Dwarves, Elves, and... Murlocs!

Not all challenges might be as difficult as they seem at a glance: there are usually tips and tricks to be found to make everyone's lives easier. In this series of guides we'll take a look at how to complete each event Task, so that you'll be able to get your hands on all the rewards available. As of now, we'll focus our attention on the current task.

In case you missed them, if you click the banner below you'll have access to each of our task guides for this event.

How to Complete the "Emperor Dethroned" Task from the N'Zoth Event

  • Requirement: Complete Emperor Thaurissan Bounty without setting off powdered kegs.
  • Rewards: 75 N'Zoth coins, 50 Balinda Stonehearth coins.
  • Difficulty: 2/5

Not a particularly difficult bounty: not setting off the kegs is something you normally want to do, so Emperor Dethroned asks you to be just a little more cautious than usual.

Emperor Thaurissan will appear on the battlefield as a Neutral 10/200 Protector, supported by its wife Moira (a 12/60 Protector) and 15/50 Abomination. Each of these three units has an aura ability.

On your side of the board, you'll find two 0/30 kegs, which are basically bombs that deal 30 damage to all characters when they are destroyed: setting off one will almost always make the other one explode too.

The plan is pretty simple:

  • The first thing you need to do is killing Emperor Thaurissan.
    • If Moira Bronzebeard, which is a lot more fragile, will happen to die before Thaurissan, the chances to complete the bounty will dramatically drop (as you'll see in the clip we recorded).
    • That's going to happen eventually, so before that damage Thaurissan as much as you can.
  • After Thaurissan is done, clear off any of the remaining enemies

In the meantime, make sure to keep your entire board healthy: you do not want any of the kegs to randomly die and mess up your plan.

Deathrattles apart, the fight itself does not represent that big of a deal: the only two abilities you have to be aware of are Thaurissan's Heat-seeking Flame 3 (which has the potential to hit the kegs if not positioned correctly) and Moira's Sinister Strike 3 (which can snipe one of the kegs and waste all your efforts).

Therefore, our suggestion is to not scatter your Mercenaries across the board: keep them together and put the one with the most Health in the middle.

Suggested Comps

Here are a few Mercenaries parties you can use to complete the "Emperor Dethroned" task. You'll be able to choose between many comps, suggested by different content creators, as well as mentions of budget alternatives for our readers that don't have many Legendary Mercs in their collection.

Out of Cards Recommendation - Holy Comp

In order for you to successfully complete this bounty, you need two things: healing and reliable AoE damage. The Holy comp is able to provide both thanks to Prophet Velen and Anduin Wrynn's great synergy.

To prove this comp of being fit for this task, we actually recorded a video showing you that you can pull this off with ease (even if you kill Moira ahead of time).

ZombiesGoNomNom's Nature Comp

The Holy comp isn't the only one that can provide healing and damage: the Nature boys can do that too, as ZombiesGoNomNom will show us.

Other Resources

Our clever community members set up a forum thread to share your Mercenaries progression journey, and we have added a #mercenaries channel on our Discord server if you want to talk with others in real-time. If you need an assist, you can also respond to this guide and we'll do our best to help you out; the comments are also a great way to share your own comps that you've used to complete the task above.

Good luck taking on any of these Bounties for those sweet sweet coins or just for the sake of satisfying completion!
