  • I liked Lightspawn =(

I do agree the schemes being kicked out was a good call though. The bomb warrior deck legit had a dead card lol. I know what they were trying to do with it, but damn did that suck to draw early on. Now we got a nice meaty body with extra value!

  • We've been hard at work on a few things over the past week behind the scenes so not many user-facing things have changed. More stuff will be visible once we get into card reveal season =) I did want to keep everyone up to date though on what is going on with the site.

    New Features

    • Decks can now be filtered by dust cost! A great way to find budget options is to put 0 in the first box and 1600 (or less) in the second.
    • Decks can now be filtered by the cards that they contain.
    • Logged in users can now see how they have voted across the site and get real-time feedback on their votes.
    • Mobiles users can now access rating polls and related decks on card pages.
    • You can now see card ratings on the card pages. This is not finished being styled, but it was important to show the details.

    Changes

    • Pro deck listing on the homepage will now always display 5 decks, regardless of deck age.
    • Card pages will now always display 5 hot decks, regardless of deck age.

    Bug Fixes

    • Pages should no longer server error on certain comments. Sorry this took a while to get resolved.
    • Fixed an issue with padding on paragraphs on the site.
    • Fixed mobile issues with comments.
    • Fixed an issue where the site would not display your newly created comments until a page refresh.
    • Fixed issues where the displayed vote score was incorrect or inconsistent with the real data.
    • Hearthstone classes no longer appear out of alphabetical order across the site.
    • The calculation for how hot a deck is has been adjusted to fix incorrect weighting of decks with no votes.
    • Site supporter borders no longer look wonky in comments.

Also, it's worth mentioning that Blizzard announced Tavern Brawls are now going to last all week, so we're going to find a better way to display pro decks on the homepage - we can't have brawls taking it over all the time.

  • Haha! It's also going to be going up on the homepage tonight in a dedicated post.

  • Storage is super cheap. Old threads, decks, comments will not slow the site down, cost next to nothing to store, and provide too much value in the future. If they every slow the site down, we've done something seriously bad and should rethink running websites.

If you look at a site like reddit, it's proven you can run sites with stupid numbers of traffic. Although it would be wicked to be that size, I don't think we're going to have a billion unique visitors a month, ever. Soooooo cool though.

So while it may be a noble idea to help keep the place clean and fast, we'd actually much prefer keeping all the data.

  • Yeah, it is by far the worst art in the game. I'm not even saying that to be funny, it's so bad.

  • Definitely was one of Hearthstone's more memorable cards =(

The new art looks so damn good though! I'm a huge sucker for mages.

While your intentions are noble, the example you listed is a horrible one. Deleting resolved bug report threads or requests for a feature is a pretty bad idea. Leaving it up lets ppl know that the issue has been resolved or that we may already be considering (not) adding this feature etc., and can prevent from another thread on the same topic popping up from a user who might not have noticed that. Or it can be referenced, if the problem resurfaces etc.

Bingo. Also, it's really bad if we give someone the ability to delete a thread they created when people are actively conversing in it or have in the past. That hurts the community a ton!

Now, what is supposed to happen though is if you delete your post in a thread and its the only post in the thread, the thread is supposed to get deleted. That isn't implemented yet though RIP.

  • Yeah it looks like we're gonna have to do away with the Quest moniker.

    RIP 2017-2019

On topic though, Tome of Origination is absolute fire. Drawing 0 cost cards as a passive with your hero power is some serious late-game awesome for Warlock. I wonder what other cards we may see that will help Warlocks replace cards in their decks...

  • I like the idea that old card backs are going to come back so people can jazz up their collection / decks with more flavors of Hearthstone. The game has been out for a long time and it has gained so many new fans since the early couple of years so letting them fill up their collection is really cool, even if its years later. I'm not a fan with how they are handling this specific case though.

I do think it is important to differentiate how someone earned a card back. I've had this stance since Ben Brode originally stated they wanted to find a way to bring back older card backs so I apologize for sounding like a broken record to those who have seen me drone on about it.

Some sort of small visual clue could easily differentiate if you had a "first edition" version of a card back. One suggestion I have is to make a "simple" change to the ring around your deck on the board to be golden instead of grey. I realize the majority of card backs out there are likely to be golden, so having a large element around the deck may not work too well. You could instead go for a more subtle approach of adorning the slot with a gem of sorts.

If you do that for a "first edition" card back, those who were around the first time will feel good about being so but it gives them room to allow the card back to be given out again.

  • It is no secret collection syncing is vital to the Hearthstone community which is why it is so high on the priority list. I've seen firsthand for years what it can do for a site and want to see that exact system on here, but better. =)

  • We're going to have a dedicated patch post shortly. There's some other great goodies too.

  • Don't news post while sleepy.

Though, that mistake certainly feels validated after the last season =(

  • It'll be implemented when you have the ability to store your collection on the site. I don't have an exact estimate yet, but it's one of our high priority core features so we shouldn't be too far off.

Ideally, I'd like to see it before the next expansion launches.

  • I've opened an issue for this so we can get it implemented. Oversight on my part when we added golden support for card image embeds =)

  • I understand some convenience by having both under one, but I don't want to use another site as an example of how to do it "right". Although it would feel familiar, there are serious downsides to consider when putting them together.

The big one for me is I want the guide editing experience to be unhampered by a deckbuilding having to load all the cards and data. The deckbuilder on Out of Cards, although blazing fast when you compare it to the fossil that is HearthPwn, is still extra overhead for someone that just wants to edit their description. The amount of time I have personally wasted on editing small description changes over the years could have written so many more articles or deck guides on the site! I received a lot of feedback over the years that also disliked how slow it was for simple edits.

Another downside is I'd like to do a lot of really cool custom stuff to help people build better deck guides, and putting all that on the deckbuilder page, even if you had some kind of tabbed view (not a huge fan of tabbed views FWIW), may be too much. It also means people expect to have that information on the regular deckbuilder page and that isn't the goal I originally had for the system. The original goal for the deckbuilder was to make it really easy to save decks to the site. Add your cards, give it a name, make sure the archetype and deck type are correct and hit save. Most people don't write guides and use the site to store their decks meaning having to go through a guide editor only to ignore it would be counter productive.

I do see why you'd want to be able to edit both though. If you are changing cards around, there's a decent chance you want to talk about it. Perhaps a better solution would when you are editing a deck's cards, you'd be able to click "save cards" or "save cards and edit guide", the latter saving your cards and bringing you over to the guide page meaning there's one less button to click overall.

  • This has been resolved!

  • Fix is going out now and will be available momentarily. Sorry for the trouble!

  • MRRGGLTON WHERE YOU AT?

This is gonna be such a good expansion. THE FLAVOR. The flavor is going to be incredible.

  • Looks like I never responded here, but yeah, it exists now and has for a while!

Or if you want only Hearthstone
    https://outof.cards/hearthstone.rss

I actually really like the RSS Subscription Extension by Google (for Chrome) since it'll let you know when you're on a page that has an RSS feed embedded in it. Great way to discover which sites are still cool.

  • Microsoft unveiled a new type of Gamepass plan at this year's E3 which includes Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass all-in-one. The name of the new subscription is Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and you can currently buy a month from Microsoft for $1 which will also convert your active subscription of Live and Game Pass over to Ultimate.

Now, how do you get this cheaper? Your Ultimate plan converts Live and Game Pass days to Ultimate days. For example:

    • You currently have 6 months remaining of Xbox Live.
    • You purchase the $1 of Game Pass Ultimate. It upgrades your live into ultimate.
    • You now have 7 months of Ultimate (1 + 6 you originally had)

    This can be abused!

If before converting your account into an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate account you add a bunch of extra Xbox live time, that will convert 1:1 into ultimate access. Currently, a 12 month card for Live is $60 USD. A year of Game Pass Ultimate is around $180. That is a savings of $120 a year! Microsoft allows you to convert up to 3 years of active subscription time into Ultimate time which means if you buy 3 12 month cards, you save $360 on game pass ultimate and will have it until this time in 2022.

So, here's the links you need.

    • Buy Game Pass Ultimate for $1 (The last step, after adding your live / game pass time cards)
    • Buy Xbox Live 12 Months (Amazon Affiliate Link - purchases made with the link support Out of Cards)
      • Amazon appears to be out of stock as of writing for digital codes.
      • Do note this promotion expires either on June 30 or July 4 so unless you can get physical codes mailed to you before June 30 to play it safe, don't buy through Amazon.
    • Buy Xbox Live 3/6/12 Months (Microsoft)

I'm kinda happy I've got it for the next 2 years, though 3 would have been awesome.
