Card reveals for March of the Lich King continue today with new Hunter cards from Iyingdi!
New Hunter Cards
For clarity: Eversong Portal's scaling with Spell Damage means more Lynxes being summoned, while the stats remain the same.
Even though we've known about it ever since the expansion announcement, one more card has been brought up for added context as part of this reveal. You can undoubtedly notice the Arcane spell school synergy:
Missed any of the previous reveals? We've got Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 6, Day 7, Day 8, Day 9, Day 10, Day 11, Day 12, Day 13, Day 14, and Day 15 recaps available, on top of the 'leaked' cards from various Death Knight Showmatch streams - Part 1 & Part 2.

Cool idea for an archetype, but I don't know about it. Halduron in particular looks extremely dull; are you ever excited to play him? Could've been +2 to bring more punch.
I like the callback to Crystalsong Portal. Very similar artwork, too.
Nope, spell damage support, while face damage quest hunter still exist, nope.
So I see where Blizzard is coming from in making an arcane spell damage hunter, it thematically matches the expansion with the Blood Elves who love arcane magic, yea that makes sense. As for viability though... that's asking for a lot. I highly doubt this arcane package will be playable this expansion. We need much more support.
It's bizarre to me that the bulk of the comments here were about face hunter, as if a tiny-ass package of a few cards could bring face hunter back into a world where Theotar happened, while each of these cards screamed Quest Hunter.
Quest Hunter has no problem playing for board at start because it knows it has a crushingly-nasty lategame finisher and can afford to take lackadaisical early turns because if you haven't killed them early-on they get to turn their hand into a you-sized woodchipper . . . or an infinite value machine.
So Conjured Arrow and Eversong Portal are meant to make that happen by providing value midgame, Arcane Quiver is meant to set up the former, and Ricochet Shot is either (preferrably) a payoff card when the other cards work. Twinbow Terrorcoil is somewhere in there giving you the breathing space to clean up your opponent's board and set up a fat hand of repeated hero powers.
I can't even begin to understand how this would work for Face Hunter which would keel over, even with perfect hands, against a Paladin spamming Maki Rolls or a Mage reducing damage to their face to 1.
Anyway, the problem with this is that there are almost no Arcane cards for Hunter and if Hunter plays with its best cards, the non-Arcane spells will absolutely destroy Arcane Quiver (and that's both in Standard and Wild). So just like that, the most questionable part of the combo is trash and D.O.A.
So now your problems are tutoring and/or massive amounts of draw to make up for tutoring because you need to a) play Halduron Brightwing, preferrably multiple times then b) get these three Arcane spells in your hand -- four if you include the worst one, and I don't think that you can.
So you're playing Stitched Tracker, imo. The first option is to play almost no minions such that Stitched Tracker always nabs a Halduron Brightwing, then fill your deck with Dredge and Discover to draw the real one and get yourself set up that way. The other is to play with other useful minions and just hope for the best with the Tracker. (I feel you're always playing Tracker -- that could be my error right there.)
This feels very janky, and is a thousand-times-over why it could never work in face Hunter, but even in Quest, getting your spells in the wrong order or the wrong time will feel really bad and it's the non-Arcane spells that are carrying you.
This package of cards feels like the follow-up to an Alternate Earth Hearthstone where Team 5 was giving Hunter real Arcane support for a year.
The real clincher to me is actually how well and consistent Conjured Arrow would work in practice, because the manathirst is currently the only thing stopping this card from absolutely transforming the hunter gameplan. Which is why I thought it would work in face hunter, because that deck suffered immensely from its lack of tempo in the early game and draw in the late game - which is why its not a very good deck, as opposed to other aggro decks like implock and dhunter.
So in a world where we can exercise conjured arrow reliably on turn 6, you can draw upwards to 4 cards with Talented Arcanist, or if youre juicing that card then it'll be at least 5. That's not insignificant for a class that can easily burn 10 damage with two cards. The draw also allows you to fit in janky cards like Talented Arcanist, Twinbow Terrorcoil etc.
Im not 100% behind this at all, purely because the manathirst condition of conjured arrow is currently way too severe, and the fact that all these cards are clunky as hell for hunter. Cant say for sure until we get our hands on it. But at least its one direction hunter can look forward to.
Honestly, if the whole package doesn't work, I wont be too surprised to see the manathirst condition be reduced to 4 in a later buff.
Cool but... not impressive? I don't know, it's definitely a new take on Spell Damage deck, but for some reason these cards don't spark any enthusiasm in me...
Is there a clarification on how Eversong Portal will work with spellpower?
Depending on if the amount of beasts (I assume it will have the beast tag) or their statline will change, this is either ok-ish or unplayable.
My hope due to the image is that it increases the number of summons, then it could be a solid 3 star card.
Yes, actually, looking into it a bit more. From the person who compiled the reveal article and apparently as confirmed by HS dev:
I'm guessing you get more of them, not one bigger beast.
Pretty disappointing tbh. This is yet another package that won't see play because there isn't enough support for it. They'll probably add some support in 4 expansions just when it's about to rotate like they did with so many other packages. 5 Arcane spells in standard (only 4 benefiting from spell power) aren't enough. I hope they add Vereesa Windrunner in the coreset next year at least. That said, individually, I expect Ricochet Shot and Conjured Arrow to see play in QL Hunter though I am not sure it'll make the deck the powerhouse it once was.
so much for trying to move away from face hunter
god blizzard please not again im beggin you man
Gonna be hard to play Face Hunter when only two of your spells can even go face
Ah yes let me play a Spider Tank and a river croc in my 2022 Face Hunter deck! Oh and some spells that are only average and don't go face when those are played on curve! Surely that'll work!
alright bud go ahead and be a smartass dont come cryin to me when the next expansion after this drops arcane face spells and suddenly im lookin real smart
I like it even if it does not look strong enough for Wild yet. Maybe we'll get some more Arcane spells in the future or they'll update some cards like Rapid Fire to get that Spell School.
What's in my quiver? A couple of lynxes of course.
How does spell damage + 1 on spells work ? IE. it's only for that spell, right ? It's not like you cast the spell and then you get + 1 damage for the rest of the game I hope ?
I'm pretty sure it will just increase the numbers on that specific spell. You can think of it a bit like a normal handbuff for minions, just with the affected numbers inside the textbox instead of attack/health stats on the corners.
Oh dear, looks like Talented Arcanist would be working over time next expansion it seems.
After a few expansions misses, this may finally be where face hunter makes a comeback. One of the persistent problems with hunter has always been its draw (outside of quest hunter) and Conjured Arrow may well be the thing that finally allows face hunter to exist in this meta. Because with a few setups and Talented Arcanist, you'll likely be drawing way beyond the efficient 1 card per mana costing. That means there's a better chance you can fully utilize Twinbow Terrorcoil to its fullest potential
Both Silvermoon Farstrider and Halduron Brightwing are hard to judge, because we dont know how well hunter can maintain tempo, and conjured arrow only ever draws after turn 5. Both are setup cards essentially, but it may well be necessary to play more immediately impactful cards like wildseeds rather than rely on an inconsistent setup.
There is a chance that these cards are just too clunky for a straight class like hunter. Only a hands on will tell, because at the moment it does seem like any aggro deck would just roll this entire deck over.
