The Mini-Set is finally here! Our community members have naturally been tinkering with the new cards since their arrival so let's take a look at the decks that have emerged from their breweries so far.
Don't forget to check out Swizard's midweek post as well for some wombo-combos with the new Edwin.
Pirate Combo Rogue
Let's start by addressing the elephant-sized Pirate in the room: Mr. Smite has certainly seen a lot of popularity in this first week. Thonson's take on the Pirate charger is a bit different though, as this list aim's to create some copies of him with Togwaggle's Scheme before bursting your opponent down with Captain Hooktusk.
For your more traditional Pirate needs, here's cydonianknight's Pirate Warrior. I still can't fathom how Defias Cannoneer is a real card.
Big Spell Mage
Mages got some big spell support in the Mini-Set, but are those cards any good? Tumbleweedovski was interested to determine that and set out to the Wild part of Hearthstone which is better suited for such strategy.
Even Druid
Uh oh, something's broken in Wild again. RenoLord has noticed that Jerry Rig Carpenter's interaction with Hidden Oasis is bugged, and instead of two 6-Cost spells you'll end up with 0-Cost ones. Last time I checked 0-mana 6/6 was considered acceptably strong even in Wild, so you definitely have the potential to cheese some games with this list.
Highlander Menagerie Paladin
DePachy's Paladin list has a little bit of everything going on. While Mr. Smite might not be the menace he is in some other decks, you definitely won't be sad to see him pop up from N'Zoth; possibly alongside Circus Amalgam as well.
OTK Warlock
New cards naturally meant new OTK combos for MarkMcKz, who chose Shadowblade Slinger as one of the first cards to try out. This one would've been a lot harder to pull off if Crystallizer hadn't dodged the Questlock-related nerfs.
The very first OTK video Mark posted since the new set? Naturally, it had to be Maddest Bomber OTK (with her little brothers included, of course).

As mentioned in the updated (and in depth) guide, I haven’t done much climbing yet this season. However, I’m doing alright with the Hooktusk Smite combo deck. Up to Platinum 5, and honestly I only really shoot for Diamond so I’m happy with how it’s doing!
Thanks as always for the highlight!
Thanks for highlighting!
Deepwater Evoker is somewhat decent in the deck. Grey Sage Parrot on the other hand was the first card I wanted to cut. It has no purpose whatsoever.
-2x Grey Sage Parrot-1x Dragoncaster
+1x Arcanologist
+1x Flame Ward
+1x Dragon's Fury
is what I ended up with. It's slightly better, but still way too slow for this meta. Try at your own risk!
Best thing I did was to include C'Thun, the Shattered, since he's four 5-Cost spells in one, giving you tons of deckbuilding space for other cards. Also run Arcane Flakmage with a few Secrets to stabilize against aggro, and play Brann Bronzebeard with 2x Conjure Mana Biscuit to have a real win condition.
I agree that C'Thun, the Shattered would make perfect sense. I'll keep him in mind for the next time I feel like playing Big Spell Mage.
Big Spell Mage by definition is slow and likely to die to hyper aggro. I think if you are to play such super off meta decks you should go all in rather than try to make a stitched up thing that loses its identity. Deck already has too many cheap spells, with your addition you'd have five 3 mana spells!
If you want to cut anything I'd suggest Kalecgos and one Alextraza first.
