Don't quote me, but their logic might be they wanted to limit the new cards available to DH (Because going into new year they have the most cards out of any class, but don't quote me?)

Oh shit!  I quoted you.  Oops!  :)

I wouldn't be surprised though if they made an announcement that some of the cards released in last year's expansions for DH would be going to Wild early.  In that case, THOSE cards would likely warrant a dust refund, unlike rotating Basic and Classic.  At least that is my opinion!  But it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Just my initial run through the full list on playhearthstone.com I had some questions.  First, Crimson Sigil Runner is in Core but is from a set staying in Standard (Ashes of Outland).  Same thing with Spectral Sight, Ashtongue Battlelord, and Warglaives of Azzinoth (the last of which is buffed down to 5 mana again, but with only 3 durability now instead of 4).  The rest of DH's Core are all Basic card, Initiate cards, or new.  But I'm curious to know now, if they took cards from Ashes, are they removing any cards from Scholomance and Darkmoon early?  Are they balancing out the available card pool now?  Seems like it, or they would have found four other cards for those Core slots.  We'll see!

Then in Paladin I see Stand Against Darkness but... Day at the Faire is still around too.  I guess you'd include both because one doesn't require the corrupt effect, but until we see more cards, it's hard to imagine running Faire and Darkness in the same deck.  I wonder if they are coming out with more Dudes synergies soon?  They already added Warhorse Trainer and the new 2 mana perma-buff +1 attack to all summoned Dudes the rest of the game, so... likely I guess we'll see more Dude centered cards.

Interesting choices so far in just the bit I've looked at already.

I fully intend to run this Norzdomu in every deck, unless there is a good reason not to.  A 7 mana 8/8 Dragon isn't terrible, and if the opponent also happens to be running him... the MEMES!!!  LOL

What we're talking about are golden copies of the former Basic cards. That should be the group of cards that could net quite some dust for the majority of players IF it is possible to disenchant them. Which I strongly doubt to be honest.

These will get the same treatment as other Basic cards that went to HoF, such as Mind Blast.  They will become Common cards and can be DE for normal values.  I don’t know specifically where it was stated.  Maybe in one of Dean’s recent Twitter Q&A’s.  But again, when any previous Basic cards went to Wild they got Common gems and I DE’d the golden versions!

Also, the article announcing the Core set on the HS site states that if you have Wild unlocked at the time of rotation you will get all Basic cards and their golden versions.  So if you were thinking of starting a new alt account, or have a friend thinking of starting their first, do it now before rotation to get a bunch of free Wild cards/dust.  It’s in the second paragraph of the Introducing the Core Set section.

I was forcing DH games to try and get the last couple golden basic cards but after I noticed that line in the article I think I can relax and just play whatever I want, as I’ll get them anyway.

To get onto the actual topic, I actually think both sides of the argument have merit in terms of the Core set being a money saver or not.  To FortyDust’s original point, this isn’t really a money saving move for players who play all formats, or at least it’s not a huge money saver!

Considering the points made by others, it does mean getting more relevant packs from Brawls, which can help a little for obtaining newer cards.  And to my own point, even just dusting the golden Basic cards gets a decent amount of dust, which means you could potentially skip opening quite a few packs while getting the cards you want.  But the dust is a one-time savings, maybe two depending on how many of it you spend in an expansion.

Ultimately, I think the largest impact on wallets will be seen by newer players, followed by players who only play Standard.  For newer players, they’ll suddenly have a full Core set of cards that should actually matter.  For long tome Standard only players, you’ve boosted your dust reserves by a very large amount!

For a player like me who plays Wild, Standard, and soon Classic, the savings is mainly a smaller dust boost from the golden basics and non-Classic Brawl rewards, which Is minimal in comparison to New and Standard only players.  Which I think is what Forty was really trying to say.

    • I (and many other old players who don't really care for Wild/Classic) now have the option to dust massive amounts of classic cards.

Even just dusting all the golden basic cards will net you nearly 9 legendaries worth of dust!  I plan on keeping the rest because I do play Wild, and want to check out the Classic mode, but even just those golden basic cards will amount to some good savings.  I could save the dust to get some of the new cards I miss or maybe use it as an investment towards older cards I always wanted but never opened.

I mean I wouldn’t be buying them right now anyway as I have all the Classic set, but I can see by my downvotes some people don’t appreciate jokes.

This isn't really a big deal but... shouldn't all four of these be tagged as "Rotating Soon"?!  Small indie game companies, man!  I tell you!

Is this the first time a hero skin has been obtainable in the shop via gold?

Maybe the Wild Packs could be for those Wild Mega Bundles. One pack type, you can open from sets A-D.  More efficient in filling in the missing pieces if you have a big gap in sets A and C, but very few gaps in the others.

I also thought Alterac for exp3 as I'm thinking it looks a little snowy, and if they are doing a Horde exp and an Alliance exp, and wanting to bring HS back to it's Warcraft roots, the loosely connected third exp makes sense to be in an epic WoW BG.  And none of the original BGs in WoW are more epic than AV.

For the second exp I am thinking Westfall, and the mini set of 1 and 2 will revolve around classic dungeons in the zones.  Specifically Razorfen Kraul/Downs and then Deadmines.  Not sure what the mini set of AV theme might be other than maybe bringing in some reinforcements to the fight?

I didn't realize how serious this issue was to you!  My bad!

But in all seriousness, yes, he looks a little different.  The coloration may be an art choice as he has light from the spell he is performing shining onto his skin, making it a little different color.  In most images I find of Vol'jin he actually has a bit more blue in his hue than Zekhan.  But if you compare his skin tone in some cinematics (not his death scene) it's pretty much in line with Zekhan, in my opinion.

The main thing I can see in giving the image a little more analysis is that his armor is scaled down considerably.  But in doing a quick search, he appears to be in his first Mercenary form in this card art.  You can see the progression of his character art for Mercenaries mode here.

With that in mind, it does seem odd that they chose not to give him his traditional look, or at least maybe his second or third look.  Even with his face covered in full war mode the Vol'jin riding a raptor would have been more appropriate for a legendary minion than lvl 1 Vol'jin.

I'm honestly already dreaming of a world where I can use Malygos the Spellweaver in a Wild spell burst Shaman deck.  Frizz Kindleroost to reduce the cost of Malygos, maybe Emperor Thaurissan for more cost reduction...  But basically you want to play Malygos for cheap, pull a bunch of spells like Lightning Bloom, Lightning Bolt, Crackle and maybe some other cheap face damage spells.  If you are running Emperor you might also have some other spell damage minions and/or spells in hand with reduced cost, increase your damage output... Who knows!

Okay, now I need a Protoss themed hero skin, maybe Protoss Valeera, and when you don’t have enough mana her voice line needs to be “You must construct additional pylons!”

Likely due to two reasons.  One, we mat be seeing more spells that can go face soon for Shaman.  Two, they gave us Zekhan posing a generic troll.  With this 1 drop and the removal of the Air totem I am expecting more spell damage in general for Shaman in the future.  We’ve already seen Bru’kan.  While Bruh’s spell damage is specific to Nature spells, that’s like 90% of Shaman’s spells, maybe more, so most likely always useful.

Look at Zekhan over here, pretending he’s a generic troll, and not a named WoW character.

Not sure, but it has the same weird watermark that Vanessa VanCleef has behind her card text so it makes me feel like it's a legit new card in the Core Set.  They said some would be re-imagined favorites.  Maybe this watermark is to indicate they are a "re-imagined favorite" as Vanessa is like the new version of her father, Edwin.  This is like Shadow Visions but it pulls the card instead of giving you a copy.
