As you can see, these tasks are quite the mixed bag: while some are fairly simple to complete, others require more than a bit of thinking (and luck: that one's always welcome) and planning ahead.

Moreover, certain tasks clearly state that you need Comps consisting on Mercenaries belonging to specific races in order for your progresses to count: the Chi-Ji event was about Beasts and Dragons, and this time you'll need the help of Orcs, Humans and Dragons.

Not all challenges might be as difficult as they seem at a glance: there are usually tips and tricks to be found to make everyone's lives easier. In this series of guides we'll take a look at how to complete each event Task, so that you'll be able to get your hands on all the rewards available. As of now, we'll focus our attention on our current task.

In case you missed them, if you click the banner below you'll have access to each of our task guides for this event.

How to Complete the "Take'em Down Quick" Task from the Leeroy Jenkins Event

The event starts off with a rather easy task: you need to complete the first of the Bounties introduced in Patch 22.6, and you need to do it in less than 30 turns. We dare to say that the turn limit is irrelevant, as it will never take you as close as that many turns to defeat Smolderwing; moreover, the task description does not state that you have to complete the Bounty in Heroic mode, so all the better. However, clearing this task in Heroic will also give you the chance of unlocking Nefarian and Deathwing's equipments (as long as you add them to your comp, of course) - keep this in mind!

With that being said, let's take a look at what the final fight looks like and what our foes will try to do in order to hinder us.

Smolderwing will appear on the battlefield supported by two Fire-Starved Whelps, resulting in a Red/Green fight for your Mercenaries. Each of these three units has an aura ability.

    • Smolderwing - Fire damage sets enemies On Fire. (Deal 5 damage to themselves after they cast an ability)
    • Fire-Starved Whelp - Whenever this Attacks a target that's On Fire, it consumes the flames to gain +3/+5.

On your side of the board, you'll find a 0/500 Stonemaul Banner, with Stone and Maul, which will basically negate the On Fire recoil damage inflicted by Smolderwing's aura effect.

While the Whelps will focus on simply attacking you, Smolderwing has a vary set of skills, among which Black Flight deserves attention: being Immune to physical attacks, you want your comp to focus on special damage, and fortunately for us there are a couple options out there.

    Suggested Comps

Here are a few Mercenaries parties you can use to complete the "Take'em Down Quick" task. You'll be able to choose between many comps, suggested by different content creators, as well as mentions of budget alternatives for our readers that don't have many Legendary Mercs in their collection.

Out of Cards Recommendation - Fire Comp

Among all the different ways of approaching this fight, our philosophy is to always fight fire with fire, and that's exactly our first suggestion. The so-called "Fire Comp" is very good at both climbing and defeating this boss, as [Hearthstone Card (Inferno 5) Not Found] is extremely efficient against enemy Protectors.

To prove this comp of being fit for this task, we actually recorded a video showing you that you can pull this off with ease (even if you make some laughable mistakes like the first Lesser Water Elemental 1 trade!).

Here are a few tips for those unfamiliar with this strategy.

    • The Mercs you'll use to climb are Baron Geddon-Balinda Stonehearth-Ragnaros, and so are the ones you'll use in the final fight.
    • Baron Geddon is the cornerstone of this comp: you cannot really hope to pull this off without it.
    • Ragnaros isn't as fundamental but it's still pretty good, as it guarantees Critical Damage against Fighters.
    • Balinda Stonehearth provides Critical Damage against Casters and does the same job of Blazing Rune 2.
      • Balinda's Lesser Water Elemental 1 is quite useful, as you can cause problems for Smolderwing if you manage to land an attack and Freeze it or a Whelp - it can buy you one turn, therefore increases your chances to win.
      • It's a rather strong Mercenary for this strategy, but if you don't own it consider replacing it with [Mercenary 'Chiji' Not Found]/Antonidas.
    • Chi-Ji has Fire synergy and also provides Healing, which is something that may come in handy sometimes. Granted that most of you should own it thanks to the recent Chi-ji event, Antonidas is a valid alternative.
    • As already stated, Deathwing and Nefarian are in the party just so you can unlock their equipments.
      • if you don't own them or if you don't plan on going Heroic, consider swapping them for support Mercs like Cookie, the Cook with Appetizers 1 and such.

    Anfidel's Holy Comp

Another way of approaching the fight is with a Holy-heavy build, just like Anfidel did.

    • Anduin Wrynn-Prophet Velen-Chi-Ji is your starting comp for the final boss, and Xyrella is your first sub in case one of them dies.
    • Alternate Holy Damage to self-heal, so that your Mercs won't succumb under the enemies' blows.
    • The other two spots in the party are up to your choice: consider the usual support Mercs like Cookie, the Cook with Appetizers 1, or anything you feel confident playing.

    Old Guardian's Budget Comp

If your Mercs library is not particularly wide, worry not, as Old Guardian published a budget comp to clear the Smolderwing bounty with: it will probably take you more turns than a meta party, but we think you still have decent chances to get the job done in less than 30 turns.
