Forged in the Barrens is the first Hearthstone set being released in the Year of the Gryphon. The expansion will launch on March 30 with a mini set being added later in the year.
Forged in the Barrens Quick Info
- New Keyword: Frenzy - Effects that are triggered the first time a minion survives damage.
- Spell Schools - Like minion tribes but for spells!
- Arcane, Fel, Fire, Frost, Nature, Holy, and Shadow are the schools.
- Older spells are being reclassified under these tribes as well.
- Ranked Spells - Gain power as a match progresses. They grow in power at 5 and 10 mana.

I think this is looking really good. I was losing interesting in Hearthstone, but things are looking up!
I sure hope there is some type of Chuck Norris Easter Egg to be found in the expansion. It just wouldn't be the same.

I"m getting the feels about the nostalgia of this set coming out.
I feel very targeted by this nostalgia marketing. The sheer amount of time I've spent in the barrens both in 2004 and again in classic, as well as being die hard horde...oof dammit Blizzard ya got me (and I'm sure many others).

I am very glad they are giving tribes to spells. When you think about it, there really is no reason for only giving minions tribes.
The thing about only giving minions tribes is that then any tribal deck is kind of forced to be aggro or midrange. But with tribal spells, now we can have more control/combo oriented tribal decks.
Not to mention some minion tribes could thematically work with specific spell schools. For eg: Team 5 prints a new dragon that synergizes with fire spells, or a demon that buffs fel spells.

Sunscale Raptor and Razormane Raider have different stats in the video. Which is correct?
The ones here and also on playhearthstone website. Videos for expansion announcement are shot often before last minute balance changes so such discrepancies happen.
Thanks for clarifying! Do we know if the Raptor keeps growing (3/4 then 5/5 then 7/6 etc.)?
I imagine the raptors will continue to grow over time. Otherwise they wouldn't say "Permanent +2/+1".
