Once again, I get hit for 14 extra* damage from an unfortunate last hit on a pirate ship, knocking me out of an otherwise good game. If the ship doesnt break it's dealing 6... if it's not your day the damn thing is going to blow up for up to 18 damage on you. Up to triple the damage. Rat Pack has been the classic culprit of this dealing 2-7 extra damage in a tragic last hit. The ship makes the rat pale in comparison.
This is not alright people. Sticky minions are already desirable for their power level- there is no reason to have that side benefit to them. It leads to games where you absolutely get deleted unjustly by a bad twist of fate. Is it your opponent having such a great board that you deserve to have the damage inflicted on you? Nope! The Sky Golem from their Ghastcoiler dropped a Megasaur...
Please reply to this post with the statement, "I support making spawns deal one or half damage" or something of the like if you agree with this idea.

With the release of Scholomance Academy looming ever so close, I can already feel my fingers start to twitch closer and closer to the Mass Dust option after cracking my packs to start crafting all the wonderful things that I didn't get. I am trying my absolute best to try and keep myself from doing it this time around. It was a rough one with Ashes of Outland because there were so many issues with the power of Demon Hunter, once I thought that the nerfs were done, I was totally wrong and ended up losing out on a lot of potential crafting.
Along those thought lines is where I am currently stuck. I can see the sheer power of a number of the cards in this release. I KNOW that the nerfs are coming and probably in places that not a lot of us are seeing (Although I would bet that Secret Passage will be errata'd to say something like, "At the end of turn discard those cards" or the cost will go to (3)).
What I am getting at, finally, is what does everyone else do to keep yourself from dusting things too early or not craft something that looks amazing, but is in all reality mediocre? After Galakrond launched, I had a surplus of dust and finally crafted Raza the Chained and Kazakus to finally put together my Highlander Priest. I recently had another legendary amount of dust and instead of going the smarter route and get Reliquary of Souls, I crafted Activate the Obelisk and have been regretting my decision since.
Granted, they are both solid cards and I like playing the quest, I just inherently made the wrong decision in crafting. So my final question is what do all of you do to keep from crafting cards that look like they are amazing, but in reality are lame and/or restricted to being used in specific decks?

However, for some reason selecting a public Fireside event seems to be disabled on the website so I had to try to create my own unlisted event again, which to no surprise still results in the 404 error from previous years.

I figured it wouldn't make a difference if I opened the 5 golden packs first or last and just started out with them. BOOM! First pack, first card, golden Mozaki, Master Duelist! No luck with the other packs though, no golden epics.
Out of the 80 normal packs I got 15 epics plus one golden epic. Sadly, they were not the ones I was hoping for (not a single copy of Survival of the Fittest, Krolusk Barkstripper, Potion of Illusion and Combustion). The legendarys I got are

I'm not a big fan of standard tempo DH, and not very impressed with the Token DH cards that are coming out in Scholomance. So I went all-in with the other package they're getting, the Soul Fragments, and tried to make a control deck out of it (since it includes a new 3-damage AoE and a 7-drop that summons a bunch of 3/3s with Rush).
I refrained from Pit Commander because I have 1/3 Spirit Jailers. I tried to be picky about how many Outcast cards I included, so that Double Jump will be good for tutoring Skull of Gul'dan often.
I really tried to make Healz Druid work, but what I came up with looked awful even with the new SA cards supporting it. So I decided to go less original and focus my deck around Guardian Animals. So I included beast synergies, but no beasts of less than 5 cost except Escaped Manasabers. Then the low end of the curve includes ramp (Lightning Bloom), removal, value-cards, and taunts to stall with.
Germination is included mostly because it's awesome to buff Speaker Gidra with. Two copies of it might be overkill though.
Not too creative on this one either, I just thought I'd see how much more effective Face Hunter could be with Voracious Reader to boost it. I also threw in Rapid Fire (a sometimes-inclusion anyway) with Professor Slate for a removal package that has fun with a new card, even though it's probably too specific a combo to be optimal.
OK, so back in Rise of Shadows, and to a lesser extent in Uldum, I really liked my aggro Spell Damage Burn Mage deck. And this set has more spell damage synergy than we've ever seen before except in RoS. So I'm hoping I can resurrect this concept.
The biggest boon is a lot more card draw to replace what Stargazer Luna once did for the deck; I've more than once wished for pretty much exactly Cram Session to exist, and now it will. So that can replace Arcane Intellect and be an improvement. Then a Voracious Reader (or maybe two? I haven't found the room so far ...) can take Luna's place.
Combustion sort of takes the place that Shooting Star once held. New 1-drop Spell Damages (!!) Ethereal Augmerchant (also flexible as removal) and Lab Partner make up for the losses of Cosmic Anomaly and Spellzerker. I also replaced Mana Reservoirs with Primordial Studies to try out; hopefully on average Reservoir or a better cheap spell damage minion will show up in the Discover pool? Mozaki, Master Duelist is an improvement on the sometimes-included Azerite Elemental from the old deck, and Ras Frostwhisper can replace the sometimes-included Arcane Explosion while simultaneously adding reach to hit face.
This is the deck I'm most excited to play in the exp, if you couldn't tell. It's expensive though. Time to spend a lot of dust ...
Not too creative here again; just using the new tools like First Day of School and Devout Pupil to patch up weaknesses in Libram Paladin with Lightforged Zealot (i.e. it's a "pure paladin," but one without even Lightforged Crusader, because random Paladin cards often suck). Lord Barov is almost a Wild Pyromancer + Equality combo in one card.
I'm not sure how good Argent Braggart and Judicious Junior are, but I'm experimenting with one copy of each.
There's no way I'm coming up with a better control priests than a gazillion Priest specialists online; it's just not an archetype I understand very well. So I went with a Zoo Priest concept instead. But then I found myself wanting to include WAY too many cards, so ... the natural solution was to go Highlander and add Zephrys the Great! (But not Dragonqueen Alexstrasza; she's way too slow for the concept.)
The biggest challenge for this deck will be generating enough card draw with Northshire Cleric gone and Power Word: Shield nerfed. I did my best, with Raise Dead, Novice Engineer, Loot Hoarder, and Voracious Reader.
Disciplinarian Gandling is kind of the linchpin card of the deck, that will probably have the highest Drawn Winrate. But you can't count on drawing him, so I tried to make the deck strong even if you don't.
I was pretty tempted to theorycraft a Weapon Rogue with the cute new package, but I knew I wanted to use that same package for my Warrior deck, so I decided not to put too decks that were so similar on this thread. I'll still theorycraft a Weapon Rogue, but I dunno if I'll share it.
So instead, I thought I'd update my "The Assassins" deck from AoO. It's an aggro Stealth rogue, which is an archetype I imagine will be pretty popular in SA; but I think my Plague of Madness + weapon removal combo (for hard removal + card draw) will still make this take on the deck original.
Sneaky Delinquent and Infiltrator Lilian replace Wasteland Assassin, which is a bit slow for this aggressive of a deck. The deck often went into topdeck mode even with Harrison Jones and Greyheart Sages, so I think the additions of Secret Passages and Voracious Reader will be a big power boost.
As usual, I have lots of ideas for Shaman decks (my favorite class), but the one most likely to actually succeed is probably to take the current Totem Shaman deck and make it even faster. So that's what I theorycrafted so far.
It includes just five new cards: Lightning Bloom x1, Tour Guide x2, and Voracious Reader x2. Not much else to say.
I already did the Soul Fragments thing with DH, and I'm certainly not qualified to figure out how to improve Questlock in the new exp. So I went with the "change your health on your turn" theme. After I put in all the cards I wanted for that package, I had 6 slots left, and I was pretty close to a very evenly-distributed, symmetric mana curve, and I had some dragon-dependent synergies. I considered squeezing in a Galakrond package, but I ended up just saying "Let's see if midrange Warlock can be a thing for once" and adding a couple more dragons that fit the dents in the mana curve.
EDIT: Revised based on a friend's feedback. No longer has an eleganly symmetric mana curve, or as many Dragons for consistency, but has more draw and heal and less ways to hurt itself and is undoubtedly better.
As I mentioned above, I love the new Weapon synergy cards and wanted to center my Warrior deck on that. My dream is that it might even bring Gorehowl back to relevance. So I'm gonna try.
Weapon Warrior is naturally going to take a bunch of face damage, though, so I put in a Taunt package for survivability: Into the Fray x2, Frightened Flunky x2, Infested Goblin x1, Armagedillo, Scrap Golem x1. Then I also added a small Pirate package, because that's practically required in the age of Risky Skipper and Ancharrr, and Dread Corsair fit nicely into all three themes.
Having such a big hole in my curve at 3 is a bit suspect, but the deck (now updated with feedback from a friend) is worth a try I think. I've tried out the small Taunt package + small Pirate package thing before (with either Enrage or Galakrond as the "main" packages), but the biggest thing that was missing was enough card draw. So hopefully Cutting Class will be a huge improvement on this style of deck.

I'll only have a few hours of time when the expansion hits next week, so I decided to use this feature this time. It's pretty easy, just go here and follow the instructions. Fingers crossed for a good haul, I'll make sure to report back what I got. I'm hoping for Ace Hunter Kreen, Professor Slate, Ras Frostwhisper and Mozaki, Master Duelist. Really lots of strong epics this expansion, that might end up being quite expensive.

I won't go and rate every card.. that's tidious and guys like trump or regis do better job at that.. so I will just put my thought on which archtypes we can expect and which archtypes got more support.
Going on alphabetical order, shared archtypes will appear on both classes.
Demon Hunter
NEW Soul Fragment- This is a big one and I think this is similar to how broken galakround shaman initially was, the cards that enable the archtype are just really good, and the abusers? also Shardshatter Mystic is a 3 cost Duskbreaker seriously this card is way too strong, even tempo DH might use it, sure you don't want to play it when you have a board.. but clear the board for 3 mana then develop? insane! the other cards are also very good this is my pick for the most broken archtype.
Big demon DH- got some control tools got a new big demon in Ancient Void Hound I think the card is good if you can cheat it out and having more big demons and some more AOE surely can make it work, but I think it's not there yet in terms of power level, if you go the control route this is probably your win condition.
tempo DH- can use the soul fragment package, the weapon is good anyway, and the 5 drop is decent.. Glide can be a good refill card, 4 mana refill 4 cards is actually quite good but it does compete with skull.. I guess if you are running soul fragments skull is worse so Glidesees play. this differs from the soul frgment archtype in that it doesn't use all the tools only 2 activators and 1 abuser.
token DH: got new token support, the archtype didn't succeed yet, but maybe THIS TIME?
Druid
NEW beast druid- not totally new beast druid was tried in the past, will see how it goes.. there are some new cards worth trying but not sold on it since the early game is questionable.
Spell/combo druid- we saw it on stream a new 10 cost card means [Hearthstone Card (kaelthas sunstrider) Not Found] shenanigans are going to get even more insane and now with prenerf innervate (with insignificant downside..) yeah.. it's not going to be fun playing against druid.
Treant/token - a more aggressive approach well a new traeant/totem card was printed I think the card is quite good and the Gibberling is just really good for 1 mana in the deck, which already features mostly spells..
Hunter
midrange deathrattle beast hunter: not new archtype but most cards just seem to fit into the same deck, will need to get to deck building about it to see what to fit and what not.
highlander hunter: could always play some new cards at least 3 cards here are decent enough for the deck,
Quest hunter: there is a new payoff card for minions dying and overwhelm is quite good in dealing with big stuff.. Desert Spear is still a card in rotation
spell/control hunter: it got a only Professor Slate and [Hearthstone Card (krolusk backstripper) Not Found] it's seriously not enough for a deck.. also lacks win condition apart from the malygos combo stuff but mage and shaman got better ways to do it this expansion.
Mage
NEW! Tempo mage: well not new.. as totally new but it has been a while since tempo mage was a thing and honestly I missed this deck.
Firebrand is Flamewaker but easier to use not as combo oriented, but really really powerful.
4 new 1 cost spells to use in the deck one new 1 drop that's a perfect fit 1/3 statline.
NEW! spell damage mage: if you play a lot of spell damage cards and get rewarded by it anyway.. when you get to the territory of +4 spell damage stuff are gonna start getting insane.
NEW! Exodia mage 2:electric boogaloo, Potion of Illusion and Licensed Adventurer enable an otk.. whenever the deck will actually work or not depends on how fast the meta is.
Highlander mage: got new stuff surely will need to look which ones are good enough to fit into the list.. surely Potion of Illusion on reno/zephrys
Paladin
Libram paladin: got ton of more support this expansion.
Highlander paladin: with bigger sets this is again on the menu manyu good cards this expansion.
Dududududuel paladin: obviously got a lot of support this expansion.. now with 2 cards that get stuff out of your deck, and more control tools like Wave of Apathy and Ceremonial Maul probably much better.. hope for tier 2.
murloc paladin: got one good murloc.. was already a tier 2 deck might be enough to keep it there? will see.
Priest
NEW! zoo/"combo" priest: lots of cards this expansion encourage a zoo/buff type priest togheter with the class rework, and last expansion not to mention [Hearthstone Card (mindreader illucia) Not Found] (which just steals the opponent's hand once you run out of fuel) hopefully will finally have a tempo archtype.
quest/ress priest priest: Raise Dead just made this fun to play against deck 10 times better, Wave of Apathy is also good to stall until the late game.
highlander priest: like every used highlander deck there are new tools that might or not be useful.. it's there.
Rogue
NEW! weapon damage matters rogue: got a ton of great tools to buff the weapon and use the fact that your weapon is buffed up.. also a new captain greenskin like card, better have weapon removal handy.
Tempo rogue: Secret Passage is so damn broken.. why is this card not nerfed yet? this effect used to cost 5 mana! probably will sue the stealth package.
highlander/galakround rogue: got new tools, Coerce 3 mana assassinate
burgle rogue: still a meme but the burgle card are good stand alone.
not sure which of those are packages or which are full decks.. maybe it will be a mishmash of all of it.
Shaman
NEW! Spell damage shaman: again it was tried before in karazhan but this time around it's more about the enabler than the payoff cards Rune Dagger is really good, Instructor Fireheartis insane with spell power also the mage/shaman legendary is good..
Totem shaman: totem shaman has a good early game currently this expansion added 2 big midgame bomb cards to it as well as just one of the best legendaries in the game in Speaker Gidra this deck is currently tier 2 according to HS replay.. I can easily see it at tier 1.
Control shaman: probably uses the spell damage package.. also it's probably the same deck.
Malygos OTK: both Lightning Bloom and [Hearthstone Card (primodial studies) Not Found] enable the malygos turn to be less about casting malygos and more about 30->0 your opponent
Warlock
NEW! Fragment warlock: think this is not a deck but actually kind of a package with 2 possibilities:
zoolock: zoolock never dies, now with Raise Dead as well as more ways to get more cards into the board faster, discard zoo can now use a new discard card :D
big demon warlock: didn't get a new big demon :/
Warrior
NEW! weapon damage warrior: like in rogue play big weapons, buff them, get rewarded you were doing it anyway.
recruit warrior: back in rise of shadow lies some foundation to this archtype was never supported since.. well guess what it got 2 new big late game bombs in Rattlegore and Troublemaker as well as another recruit card in Commencement I can see this working better than paladin.. warrior is great in prolonging games.
control warrior: getting more control tools like Lord Barov, [Hearthstone Card (reaper scythe) Not Found], [Hearthstone Card (coerence) Not Found] as well as Troublemaker
Pirate/rush warrior: no new pirates but weapon and rush supports helps the deck
If I missed an archtype it's fine I probably did I think this time around the meta will be diverse unless something goes horribly wrong.. (I have a feeling it will be because of druid or shaman..)

I've been playing since a few weeks after launch with a few periods of playing very little, or not at all for a few months towards the end of 2014 and into early 2015. I've also played more casually for the life of the game, the first two years I literally played Casual only after earning my end of month rewards chest. And I'm the type who never played card games prior to Hearthstone, so when I first started playing and would drop Arcane Missiles or something on turn 1 and my opponent emoted "Well Played" I didn't realize they were being sarcastic... Anyway, I have learned a lot since then. Here's my Legend story!
I've been home a lot more lately with the state of the world and not working a ton, so while my wife's been busting her ass in the hospital I've been staying home with our son a lot. What do you do when you're home a bunch??? Teach your 8 month old son to play Hearthstone, of course!
Yesterday after he went to bed and my wife was working a night shift I decided it was time to play some Shaman. This is my favorite/most played class, but I have ignored it for several months now as I pushed for the golden portraits in the other heroes. But looking at the Tempo Storm meta report last night I saw an Even Totem Shaman list and was like, "That can't be that good, can it?" It can! In fact, for me it was 22-6 good from D5 to Legend (79%)!
As I got ready to face the final boss this afternoon, my son woke from a nap. I went and grabbed him and sat at my computer with him in my lap. It wasn't until after I clicked "Play" that I noticed something was very wrong. My son had shit his pants! I frantically tried to click "Cancel" so I could take time to change his diaper, but I was too late. I was matched with a Worthy Opponent; a Quest Mage! Now I had to pilot the deck while also being delirious due to the stench of a thousand corpses rising from my son's diaper as he sat on my lap. Sure I could have put him down, but if he started moving around a bunch on the floor, well... do you know what a blow out is?! If not, I envy you! I kept him on my lap to avoid further incident involving the Bog of Eternal Stench (you know, from the movie Labyrinth).
I got ahead on board, trying to maintain control while hitting my opponent, held off attacking into a secret which I was certain was Flame Ward (it was) to ensure my totems would live an extra turn to buff my Draenei Totemcarver, etc. Eventually I got to a turn where I could hit him in the face and bring the Mage to 8 HP while adding some spell damage to the board to power up my Crackle to "6-9 damage". a 50/50 shot! Do I take it???
That's when it hit me... "6-9"... 69! NICE!!! This glorious number was a sign from RNGesus that it would work! I hit for exactly the Mage's remaining 8 HP. I had done it! I had won, earning the Legend card back and Natalie Seline, completing my collection of Classic legendary cards. I also had a muddy mess in my son's diaper to clean up still. Celebrations would have to wait.
I never really intended to push for Legend, I've always just kind of played whatever I felt like bouncing around from meta lists to memes, aggro to combo and all deck types in between. I always figured if I found a good deck I had a lot of fun playing that I went on a great run with I'd get Legend but not stress over it. This Shaman deck seems really good in a meta full of Quest Mage and Discard Lock, and my win record would back up that feeling.
If you are looking for something really strong to make an end of month push in Wild, try Even Totem Shaman! There's nothing more fun than killing your opponent with a giant Idiot Totem!
